Hi guys
i'm new around here so hope i'm doing this right okies i just bought a 1978 2dr mkII eski!!! it was fitted with a 2L pinto and 4 spd the g/box is there but no motor so i am looking at a conversion maybe a 1jz twin turbo supra motor but i think i'm dreaming here...so the sr20det looks like a good candidate. I am going to try and complete all work myself to keep cost resonable and it will be a long term project to get it right. Any advice on engine/gearbox conversion be great The car will be used for mainly road use and a few visits to the track I want it to be a sleeper so as to look fairly stock. okies be great to hear from anyone with advice either ways... |

SR20DET's are pretty nice and compact, so without knowing the dimensions of your engine bay, I'd say they're a pretty good bet. Just make sure to get a Nissan gearbox and a tougher diff. I know the standard diffs are quite weak. Ford 9" perhaps?
I've actually got a mate who has a 400hp SR20DET hooked up to a Ford 9", says it's the only diff that could take the power. (It's in a series 1 RX7.) He said he had to do a LOT of tubbing though. |

cheers mate i'm gunna pick the car up on sunday so i'll go from thers.... i found a few after a bit of searching round and yeah they all say the same change the g/box and diff at same time so i will keep the in mind 400 hp in a eski be good fun!! hopefully i get somewhere round that figure!! |

Go a pinto!
Golden engine! Im running a pinto witha turbo and sierra injection, im hoping for 180kw at wheels on 16psi boost, hopefully ill get it, but yer any power in a escort will be fun! Im going to be running a Hilux diff. The Hilux diff is almost the same width as a escort diff, not exact but close and have the same spline axles as a 9 inch, or so im told =) . |

Fj20DET would be nice but its the weight of a 302, but saying that its a bulletproof block

An SR20 is a fairly tight fit in an Escort but has been done. I'd be looking at the Hilux diff, nice & strong but lighter than a 9" (far to heavy for an Escort IMO)

Get a 2l zetec, a really common conversion in the uk but not much out here, be original for aus

Why would a 400hp sr20 need a 9"...? seen plenty of 350-400hp cars with salisbury/ford8" diffs without problems, mated to engines that actually make real torque...from quite low revs too. think someone`s dreamin`...

hey mate go a toyota 4age same dimensions as a 1600 get a 100kw red top cheap and bulletproof to 7000rpm all day the go real well very light so still get good handeling and a very reliable engine

pintos into mk2 escort are straight forward as these comes came with them from factory
been plenty of nissan conversions done so that not hard either |
