American comedy isnt funny, its just so stupid that people laugh at it.

Give me Billy Connolly, Jimeoin, Rowan Atkinson, Michael Crawford etc any day. There is also an aussie guy who is hysterical and I cant remember his name. He was on a laundry powder ad (I think) years and years ago. He is bald and 30s.

If I want to really laugh, I just watch the V8s and wait for them to interview Rick Kelly.

Married with Children takes the cake.

Arrested Development and Reno 911 are the best of the newish stuff.

Carl Baron? Hes great.

American comedy is rarely amusing.. Fawlty Towers, The Young Ones, or Monty Python are clearly superior.

I like Arrested Development, it was pulled because it was too smart for the average seppo though. The critics loved it however.

The absolute KING of all comedy, my childhood IDOL, I got myself into a lot of trouble in primary school trying to emulate him.

Alfred Hawthorn (Benny) Hill.

Should be a seperate post but a poll for funniest cartoon would be good - simpsons, south park, family guy, bro town, bugs bunny etc.

As for the shows, I prefer frasier, as it has about 5 comedians all working closely together that make it funny. It is not typical american humour either, which makes it even more entertaining. I must admit, whilst it was on TV for those 10 years I just couldn't bring myself to watch it. Typically, now its gone I have had to buy the bloody DVD's.

Anyway, one show that has me busting a gut and is not really a comedy is Top Gear.
The mini jump is so hilarious that there is not one person I have shown it to that does not find it funny. Comedy is such a personal thing that if you think of everyone you know, you'll rarely find something that they'll all universally have a laugh at but top gear manages it well. Murphy is good for a laugh too, especially when he goes into "pinball" mode.

Where's the 'none of the above' answer in the poll. I allways thought that 'american comedies' is like the phrase 'military intelligence' it's an Oxymoron!

Although Seppo's do have a sense of humour, they gave us Dubbya and Rumsfeld!

i hate kath and kim. its a pointless show. i didnt include cartoons because its a poll on sitcoms really. i agree though there are lots of comedy shows and i just thought of 5 from the top of my head. if i made the poll again then there would be alot of new entrants.

Seinfeld for me. I love the show. I always watch the DVDs of it at home.
So many good one liners.
"Not that there's anything wrong with that"
"No soup for you"
"Giddy up"
"Newman!"
"Art Vandalay"
I could go on.........

Wheres "Bottom"? With Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmonson from "The Young Ones". I love it, but the Mrs can'tstand it. Just good old lowest common denominator pommy humor. Right up my alley! :hihi:

Seinfeld, closely folloewed by That 70's Show & Two & a Half Men.
Although there was a show that never ran for long titled Unhappily Ever After which was a Married with Children spoof. The show starred Nikki Cox, that was what made it watchable.
