Default anyone got an xr650?

has anyone got an xr650? im looking at buying a second hand one <5000kms. apparently honda have stopped making them or selling them in australia anyway. ive got a wr250 which doesnt cut it anymore. so im looking for something with more top end power and something thats less service intensive any more reliable than the yammy.
any thoughts on the 650?

They still make them in Aus I'm pretty sure they just don't make the traditional aircooled Xr's any more, scrapped the 250 and 400 but make liquid cooled 600's and 650's.

5,000 k's and under i wouldn't be to conernd about that, I had an xr250 01 model with 11,000km on the clock and it was no slower than my mates xr250 that had an engine rebuild 500km long.

I don't know alot about the water cooled ones but the air cooled ones last for ever :p

Be alot heavier to ride than your wr but they got some balls :p

Got into a bit of a race with one on my yz250 up in wallen was suprised he stayed with me in acceleration.

yeh i know theyre heavy....nearly 30kgs or somethin on my wr, but i dont plan on hitting big jumps or racing so it should be ok. nearly 60 rear wheel horsepower arent they?!?...wicked.
i was in at my honda dealer the other day and he said theyve stopped making all xrs, and there's only the crfx's on the aussie website. So i wouldnt mind getting my hands on one while theyre still pretty new. but it just makes ya think that honda is bringing out a new model similar to the xr's soon.

Let me know if you are interested as it will be sold asap

Crf450?

He said somthing that he wants to be reliable I think, not somthing that needs rebuilding more than 2 stroke.

Xr650 make 62hp @ the fly wheel. ( the later model ones)

Crf450 make 56hp @ fly wheel

there are lots of people on there who can answer most questions you will have.
That said, the yammie yz/wr's arent any more maintenance intensive than the old xrs anyway. mine was checked a lot but NEVER needed anything other than oil and filters/

Yes I've ridden one and yeah they've got a fair bit of power. I still prefer my Yz250 over one, you can't really tell much of a power difference to be honest, They're not as exciting to ride as a 250 2 stroke IMO the respsoncivness of a 2 stroke and when you hit power band in 4th gear @ over 100 k's and the front wheel is still wanting to lift up on you it's just awesome.

Crf450
Yf450F
Kx450F

ect were made to match/beat the performance of the 250 2 stroke but the 2strokes always seem to come out better on the race track.

If you're going to go down the path of getting a 450 4 stroke I'd say go the WR450F

They are actually alot more maintenance intensive than XR`s are require alot more work. There highly tuned where the XR`s are not. Hence why the are so reliable and still have plenty of power to do anything. Except XR250`s they are for 10yr olds.

I'd love an XR250 and I'm 36! LOL!

I guess I'll just have to settle for my trusty old 2001 VFR800FI!

I've had a XR600 and a WR426 and found the WR more expensive to maintain. Having said that though the performance matched the maintenance, the WR would eat the XR.

Yeh for sure. But the XR will start in the bush every time. The WR you cant trust as much. Newer Bikes are alot more to maintain because they are tuned so high. Alot of them you can not bore out again because i think its the cylinder sleeve or something is chrome.

Anyway XR is the most reliable trail bike is the world. They rekon next best is the Suzuki DR they said its the new age XR. They think there awsome.

XR400R`s are nothing to bag out like alot of people do. Sure there no CRF450 but if your not careful you can still knock your teeth out with the handlebars if your not careful on the throttle.

I have ridden my mates CRF450 6 times and almost killed myself every time. Almost flipped it almost hit my face with the handle bars. Gave it to much over whoops and ended up flying into a real bushy part of the forest almost crashed. Its to much guts for me. Its to much for the bush.

The CRF250 has more power than the XR400 does. If i was going to get another dirtbike that is what i would get (im selling my XR400R)
