Take her to the place where you had your first date. Pack some of her favourite foods (I took strawberries, chocolate and champange). Get down on the old bended knee, pull out the ring and pop the big Q. Eat the goodies together after you pop the question.

For this to work really well though:
1. She needs to be the romantic type.
2. You need to get the type of ring that she likes, so casually (read sneakily) get an idea of the rings she likes when you're out shopping together.
3. The spot of your first date needs to be something really nice. If your first date was at Red Rooster, I'd choose the first really romantic place you went for a date. LOL!

All the best with it. Go get her mate! LOL!

Hmm I dont think I should do it where we met cos we met at the cheap uni bar obviously while we were at uni. But she ended up have a little to much to drink that night. Needless to say she ended up seeing them again in the morning. Nice...

i dont think the movies would allow me to take some picnic with me :

my missus is alreeady thinking of what wedding dress she would like to wear etc .... and no we are not engaged! ... talking about hints :

i will wait until her best friends and cousins wedding where she is 1st girl and see how she handles that day and then go from there ... i will be asleep in the last row with the rest of her family (will not be pretty that day ... well at least for me)

LOL. I dont really want to get married, anytime soon anyway because I want to spend the money on the car and do other fun stuff...

We are basically married anyway - we have bought a house and hence mortgage together and have a 10 month old son together. I wouldnt trade Toby for a wedding in a fit.

One day we might get around to it, maybe, maybe not. If we do, it will be fun, we will be ready for it, and we will have a blast.

As for proposal - no one can answer that for you. You have to go with what is right for you two, how she is as a person and her preferences, etc... just make sure that a) you want to do it, b) that you are fairly sure she will say yes, c) that it is the right time to start this way of thinking.

Good luck!

I got engaged, married, and after a few 'incidents' with her it ended up in divorce. I am now a single Dad with a full time job and a 3 year old son to look after. Due to legal costs etc... I am now unfortunately looking at getting a second job. I have just gone back to one car, and my mortgage is now going to be doubled, even though it was in my name and I had it before we were married.

Sounds bad, but it hasn't put me off ever getting engaged and married again. It isn't the end of the world if you get engaged and it doesn't work. If you and her are ready, go for it.

Just remember the old saying.

My GF plain out asked me one day; "Are we going to get married?"
I responded with "Of course, one day you'll meet the right guy and I'll meet the right girl"
She didn't laugh like I'd hoped.

Anyways, do something romantic because girls love that stuff.

When I finally get engaged I'm going to take her flying, get her up to about 35000 feet, then point the aircraft to the ground and tell her that until I get the right answer, we're not pulling up. You'll know I've done this when I've suddenly stopped posting.

If you're going to do it, make it big and crazy, something unique.

I went horse riding with the missus 1 saturday morning, which she loves because it's the 1 activity we can do together that she gets to laugh uncontrollably at me. So after 2 hours of me getting my nuts mashed and being laughed at, we jump off the horses, and mine decides that i havent had enough pain for the day so it kicked me in the thigh right next to my mashed nuts! I thank the horse for being a little off target with the kick and its off for a nice quiet lunch on the beach.

My now wife is quite a bimbo sometimes, hence her nickname, - Jess (after jessica simpson) so this was all quite easy to pull of without arousing suspicions. Next stop was the Torquay Air park where i had just told her i'd dont a job for a pilot who was going to take us up for a fly as a thankyou. Took off in a tiger moth. Flying over point roadnight the pilot dips a wing to reveal "will you marry me Lisa" in a massive love heart on the beach. She just looked at it and kept looking around, he looked back at me and i signalled to go around again, second time around she worked out that it was for her, but not until she saw the ring! When we landed she said she thought there must have been some chick on the beach called lisa as well! Ha.

Moral of the story, make it big and something thats good for lots of bragging to her friends and you'll be on easy street for ages! Ha.

Anything that's from the heart, and makes her feel unique and spesh will be something she'll remember and talk about forever.

Marriage isnt all bad, i get my lunch made every day, tea on the table every night, and my washing done! Ha.

I took mine to really expensive hotel, overlooking Circular Quay and of course the Harbour Bridge in Sydney. Went out on the balcony, when she was looking at the view, down on one knee, she turned around to see what I was doing. Popped the question...

Bottom line, if you're going to marry her, you know what pulls on her heart strings, find a couple of them that work together, and bang, there's your proposal idea.

My advice, I'll reserve for the ring. Go into a jewellery store with a clear idea of what you want. There are heaps of cuts of diamonds, as well as quality, size is NOT everything. You need to look at clarity and cut as well... Do a little research, give the person at the store your price range, and what you are looking for. Your GF, now fiance, will appreciate the ring all the more if you can show her how much effort you went to in picking it out.

Hope that helps mate! Good luck!

Bought my ex a 6k engagement ring, to show her how serious i was, after a farked up breakup on my part, she told me to pretty much jump, after partially stringing me along for a year, over a bit of $$$ and a service on her car. after all that was sorted, yhea she said jump, not top mention she copped a bit of "*****" from other guys. sold it for $1800. never ever again.

What do you guys think about this though. Ive thought about this. If you pick her up in a BMW that you dont own which my mate did. Give her flowers when you greet her? So you have a BMW and you have just given her Flowers. Stuff like that would basiclly give it away. Wouldnt you want it to be a huge suprise so shes going. OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD

Unless you're recording for a reality TV show, would it really matter what her reaction was? Wouldn't the aim be to get her to say yes?

Well i proposed to my wife ... picture this - we lived in Coffs Harbour , found a secluded beach along a river leading to beach and had a picnic (champers , strawberries etc) after lunch got on 1 knee and asked ( thought i was going to throw up - i was that nervous) before she could say anything 2 fishermen pottered past in a dingy and yelled out "DONT DO IT !!! " she went bright red .. (she doesnt like SCENES) - anyway she obviously said yes , and yes , sex is the best after that
PS - thats where it starts & ends -

3 rings
- engagement ring
- wedding ring
- suffering

Did anyone else notice that AFTER they got engaged that all of a sudden you become more attractive to the opposite sex?

its like you been approved......you go up a notch in respect or something.....or maybe its just that you shown your not commitment phobic.

I got this 'change' from a few people at work and Mrs Ringo's friends...stopped now though....I'm just another lazy husband, drinking beer and watching sport !!

When I was up at Daydream Island some guy proposed to his girlfriend by writing in coral pieces from the beach 'WILL YOU MARRY ME NATALIA' I dunno if she said yes or not but it was a nice way I think to be asked.
