I started the car for the first time in a while, and when i drove it around it felt very sluggish..
The kickback and responsiveness was terrible.. Then it got worse and from take off, the car seemed to cough and fart a bit before it would slowly increase speed.. Anyone got some ideas to why the car would be doing this (btw its an AU i6) Cheers, Matt.

did you check all your fluids/area where the car was parked for signs of fluid loss? did you let your car warmup for a while before driving off? little things like checking your fluids on a regular basis (once a week is good) and allowing the car to warm up before going for a drive helps prolong the life of the car. perhaps see your local mechanic that has a scan tool and get them to see if any problem codes are on the ecu.

Yeah i always let it warm up and i always check my fluids. All are fine, but from start up the car just didnt feel right..

how clean is the air filter? this could be another problem as it could be sufficating from lack of air. also make sure that rats or mice havent decided to take up residence in a nice dry airbox. i have seen that happen many times, especially when the car is used maybe only once a week or so as the engine is warm and the car stays stationary long enough for a rodant to take up residence.

how long has the car been sitting int he one place, or been started. it could very well be the fuel as fuel does go off over time. if you mix some new fuel with the old at least 50/50 and see what that does.

^^^ How the hell do u get a bird in your airbox let alone a birdnest? How big was the bird? Anyway, back to the point, I think it's probably old fuel as well.

The air filter is a K&N and will need to be cleaned soonish, so i might do that soon.
Its possible that its the fuel. It was about a week since i drove it but wouldnt think thats enough time to make fuel go off. I havent had the tank under halfway since i bought it so it could be because there is a mixture of a bunch of different fuels? I will run it down to a couple of litres left and top it up again and see if that helps? Also i took the xr6t intake off and replaced with stock as the xr6t was a poor build and needed some work to make look better. I didnt think of that until then so i am guessing that the lack of extra air could cause this problem. Cheers for suggestions, Matt.

Have you had any unusual flashing of the traction control when this occurs? I put new wheels on my car and have experienced the traction control icon flashing more than usual.
Edit: Forgot to mention that my car has also had a bit of a refusal to kickdown lately at WOT, but works okay in Power mode. I think my auto trans oil is due for a service.

I've had fuel sit in my car for 3 months and not go off.. another for leads here.

Happened to me a few weeks ago, new set of top gun leads fixed it.

I was told by a fuel distributor that most ULP only has a shelf life of about 4 weeks before it starts to lose its volatility. Obviously if you're filling up with PULP it'll take alot longer before you start to notice the cough and splutter and sluggishness but regular ULP, especially from a servo with relatively low turnover, will go off quite quickly.

Just had a thought, if it was a plug lead there'd more than likely be a miss but if it's generally sluggish and not happy, I'd be looking at the coil pack first. Look for corroded connections or corroded lead ends where they plug into the coil pack. If moisture has gotten into them that'll do it.

Try plugging a scan tool into it & see if it pulls any codes... could be a faulty sensor...
