Default Al Gore - Hypocrite

Do as I say, not as I do :monkes:

He uses 60 times the electricity my household uses. :

Quote:
Al Gores Personal Energy Use Is His Own Inconvenient Truth
Gores home uses more than 20 times the national average

Last night, Al Gores global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.

Gores mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).

In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWhmore than 20 times the national average.

Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWhguzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gores average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.

Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gores energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.

Gores extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gores mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.

As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk the walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use, said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.

In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

I liked the guy saying Gore's been campaigning for 30 years when 30 years ago they thought the globe was cooling :

So he's a hypocrite.

Does that change the importance of the message he has done a great job of spreading around the world?

The problem with money is that it corrupts you.

His intentions are good but his head as grown as he's forgotten what he believes in.

If he REALLY cared, he'd stop living like a tycoon and buy a nice house.

If I had millions of dollars, I would not want to live in a mansion. I would live in a regular 4 bedroom house, have a nice garden, drive a Falcon and I would still work/volunteer.

But that's just me.

Al Gore should get back to basics and be an example to everybody on how to use minimal electricity.

Oh well...that's politicians for you.

Money is inert, it can not think or act without the consent of it's owner be it good or bad.

Yes, I am aware of that. It comes down to how people use it.

Point was that Gore has lost sight of what he was fighting for.

I think that conservation starts at home.

Interesting article. I thought Gores doco was very thought provoking and a big wake up call to the countries who are the biggest omitters of C02. If the articles facts are correct then Gore does need to lead by example and reduce his C02 ommissions. I'm really very very worried about the lack of response from all of us.....we go about our day to day lives waiting for some action. I really want my kids to offer a clean environmnet to their kids.

I think that might be a little harsh.... but that's me.

Regardless of whether he 'leaves the lights on' the guy has helped get the debate out there to millions more people and showed them data to support the cause of 'global warming' and where we're headed.

His doco made me sit up for one and have a think about MY contributions to the problem.

Yeah he should be making more of an example to others (if the story above is true), but so should a lot of the big corporations and govenments around the world (including ours). None of us are squeeky clean IMO.

I'd be interested to see what he says about the story above.

Its hitting the major news outlets now. He is claiming he offsets it by buying green credits from the electricity supplier: _

Must be nice to be rich enough to waste so much and then just throw a few extra dollars at it claiming you're being 'neutral'

If everyone lived like him how many Earths would we need?

Well they say when the rest of the world (china and india) attains the same standard of living as an "average" american - we would need approximately 3 earths to deal with the population's footprint.

If al gore is going through 12x the average american's resources... we'd need 36 earths to sustain the global population's footprint

Number 1...it's human nature to be corrupted by money
Number 2...I would be happy with a single storey house in my current suburb of Glen Waverley. I'd prefer to grow my wealth. I have no interest in being a celebrity or receiving any attention. I don't want to live in a fishbowl.

I think it's more the fact that he purports himself to be a part of the solution when in fact - he's a bigger part of the problem than most people. To the tune of about 1200% worse by the sounds of it.

And i still dont see a "lefty smear campaign" being brought against a prominent lefty!!

I hear what you're saying, but there are also 'degrees of left' aren't there ?

No doubt a smear campain but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research is a lobby group for right wing policy and big business.

As mentioned the fact that someone with a big house uses more energy that someone with a small house is a no brainer.

We must remember this guy was almost elected the last president! If he didn't have a huge mansion chewing up unbelievable amounts of energy many Americans would not trust him :
