Default Skype??????

Has anyone got or used Skype? I'm just wandering if it's worth using and the thoughts of those who use if any.
Cheers Mark

Got it and have used it. It's better than MSN for video calls (less picture loss etc). Wouldn't not use it now.

I have the program, works good. My mate lives in China and has the handset, it works quite well. Not sure about pricing though I've stuck with the land line for now, he seems happy with it and you can purchase additional phone numbers. I think he said its about 3c per minute international. Free skype to skype.

For free phone calls its hard for it not to be worth it Used it a bit and got lotsa mates back home in Perth who I talk to a fair bit on it and save the phone bill.

Something to think about though, when you're running it at any time it can decide that you're a 'super node' and the Skype network can then use you to route calls between other users. Also all of the encryption is in-house and they haven't released to anyone what details can be found out if someone can intercept your call over the Internet (i.e. username/password or something). Fine for home and to chat with friends/rellies but I wouldn't use it in a corporate situation.

I agree with others, its great. Free skype to skype beats paying for calls, especially long distance

I've got it and have a linksys CIT200 wireless handset. Cheap, and almost as good as a landline. I have also used Firefly and found them very good, aussie company based in Melbourne, it's just that the handset I picked up is skype only.
I reckon skype out costs me about $10.00 per month and has reduced my long distance phone bill by $100.00 a quarter.
Regards,
Tote

Hrmmm very interesting, I use skype for work, and being an IT Manager i never read user agreements (who does?), but i suggest you do, skype sucks crazy amounts of bandwitdh, i have heard reports of up to 2.3GB a month at idle, so be careful...
After clicking "i agree", you allow them to. But unless you are on a huge d/l plan like i am at work, u may want to be careful..

This is the 'super node' stuff I mentioned at work. When you're idle other peoples calls are routed through you as a 'hop' along the way. If you're on unlimited it doesn't matter, if you're with someone like Telstra who charge and have low-ish monthly quotas you probably want to kill Skype when you're not using it.
