What does it cost to park in the Melb CBD.

Hi guy's my partner has just landed a good job at ANZ in the CBD in Melbourne, now we are trying to work out which way to go to get there from Bendigo, the two option's are train or drive, what does it cost to park in the CBD for a week, it is going to cost around $4000 a yr to go via the train, I have worked out what it would cost in fuel but what is the cost of parking and also the E-tag for a yr, any ideas guy's.

depends where u find parking, some ppl have private carparks for rent

if its a 'good' job at the ANZ then ask for a parking space as part of the package. do they have their own underground car park even?

Are you sure its ANZ in the CBD and not on Kings Way?

CBD parking usually costs $6000 a year and up - depending on access times and hours and location.

Parking under my building is up to $6800 + GST, thats AXA Australia on Collins Street, and that is for 24 hour access.

Some places will rent you an access pass for business hours only (6am -> 8pm M->F) for cheaper but you can't use it for weekend parking.

Its usually cheaper to go day by day for "early bird" parking - but you can't come and go as you please during the day.

Executives only.... so u'd be on $140,000 + in the finance sector...and even then unlikely.

Theres some new company now that organises for people to rent out their carparkings in their houses or apartment garages for while theyre at work.

Just train it. Honestly.
I work on St Kilda road and live in Hoppers Crossing (half way to Geelong).
For a while I drove in but it is extreamly expensive for fuel, parking and wear and tear on the car.
Now I drive to a train station (free parking) and just catch the train in. Great way to read a few books and let the traffic fight it out itself. For less than $1200 a year its a bargain compared to jsut the fuel (parking is another $11 a day).
As for time, I think its probably 15 minutes longer but so much easier.

I have to say I agree with Casper - you don't want to spend that much time driving in semi-gridlock peak hour traffic into the city each day

I train in from Hoppers (live just near Casper) but you can find parks IN the CBD for around $10 a day or if you look just over the side near the Telstra Dome they have outdoor parks for around $5 a day.

Get a motorbike! I use to get the train but hated it so I bought a bike. Travel time is halved and parking is free.

It cost me $15 a week in petrol to get from bayswater to bourke st in melbourne everyday.

Car parking in the CBD is around $8 to $12 per day for the early bird special. I train it in from a Zone 1 Station, once you get close to the city the traffic stops unless you come in before 7:30am.

Maybe look for a station out your way that is zone 1 (Zone 1 train ticket is $5.90 or $25.90 for a weekly) and get her to park there for free. just make sure it is not a station they borrow cars from ;)

The other thing you need to consider is the cost of depreciation etc on your car.
I travel 56 Km one way to work each day, work are silly enough to give me a maintained car for $15 K pre tax, I'm doing about 55K a year. I've done the sums and to lease just about anything will cost betwen $28K and $34K(novated lease on a 28K s/h falcon and a new GT respectively), a $5000 Falcon will cost me about $5k a year to run in and out so I reckon the train ticket would nearly be the way to go.

Thank's for your input guy's, the travel time doesn't bother us, either way it is going to be 1hr-2hr from Bgo, I think we will go via the train from Bgo to Melb, less wear and tear on the vehicle and no traffic, we asked about car spaces in the ANZ but they don't have any, it's the one on the corner of little colin's and elizabeth, the package is really good that's why she is leaving Bgo to go there but we are just trying to work out how to get there because we are not going to move to Melb, she will comute to and from and the V/line train is $730 for a 10 week pass so for a yr it add's up to about $4000, I think this will be cheaper than driving by a lot, it's just the matter of catching the train 6:30 am from Bgo and getting there at 8:00ish and than the 4:30 train to Bgo and arraive in town at 6:00ish, are these trains safe, I've never caught one before, I worry that there will be ********'s on the train, I'm trying to get work there aswell so I can go with her but if I don't I want her to be safe.

What about moving down to Melbourne,if you can stand the rat race and heavy traffic.

No thank's mate, we both hate the rat race and if we were to move it would be to Kyeton or somewhere like that and we would have to travel anyway so we may as well just stay where we are and travel from there, our families are here, we are settled in our home, it's really only an hr and a half, most people travell that anyway from the CBD to the outer suburb's etc.

Thats right, our good friend Bracks arbitrarily decided to counter the cities congestion by bringing in a levy on parking spaces in the CBD area. its supposed to jump by 20-30% or somehting in Jan 2006and double in 2007.

Doncha just love him!
