Mate, I've got one of these sitting at my parents place. Its a four door, was factory black with red interior (pimpy!!) Came with a 390 FE Motor and C6 Trans. Have never had much luck searching for info on it. They were Australian Delivered, have had a fairly average RHD conversion done ( brake booster/master cylinder is still on left hand side of car with a dodgy bar actuating it from the brake pedal). Also has a fibregalss scuttle grill (below windscreen) which may have been due to conversion as well. I would also like to know a bit more about their history especially how many were imported.

Here's a picture of a two door one

And a wagon

I've been right into Galaxies for over 20 years.
My current one is this 2 door Galaxie 500 Sportsroof, which I have had since 1988.
I've got a fair bit of info, including production figures in the US, but unfortunately none on the Aussie 4 doors.
Ask the questions, and I'll see if I can answer.

I have been searching for info on how many were imported in the four door model in 70' and just some general stats, as was told that there were only a limited number of them released in Australia.I have found a bit about the U.S. two doors and also some four doors but they are gal 500's and don't have the covers on the lights so if you have any info at all it would be great also do you know if you can contact ford directly to find out this info ? thanks

That's right, Galaxies were imported in limited numbers from about 1964 to 1972 from Canada.
I have seen numbers somewhere years ago, but I doubted the figures then.
Up to 1968 models, Galaxie 500s were imported.
1969 to 1972, the LTDs were imported.
In 1970 Galaxies, the LTD, XL, and the Country Squire wagon had the hideaway headlights. The rest had the normal headlights.
My figures show that total XL production, incl Fastback and convertible, was just over 33,000. Total LTD was over 370,000.

Try punching in 1970 Galaxie, or 1970 XL, or 1970 LTD in eBay.

To answer your very first question about build numbers, you might like to keep an eye on this thread on FordMuscle, which a friend of mine started.
