Hi there,
I finally replaced my original factory battery in my XR8 last week after getting over five years life out of it. I'm quite surprised it lasted this long, maybe i'm used to the XF, ELs i've had in the past where I was lucky to get anything more than two - three years life from them. Anyone else out there had a good run out of their AU factory batteries or is five years a standard life these days?? Nathan |

5 1/2 years out of my old EL original battery and the same from the AU.

if theyre maintained and used daily, thats not at all surprising. Mums ef had the same battery for 6 years.. it only died after it started to be used less regularly

20 years ago I thought the batteries lasted for ages but in the last ten years they seem to be made to last the period of the warranty plus 2 days.
They must have stuffed up when they made yours LoL.

Got 6years and 3mths out of the one in my AU .. just started to crank slowly and one day started the clicking solenoid (eventually started). But the car still still seemed to run fine ...

My March 1999 Au battery is 8 yrs, 2 months old and still going strong.
I top it up with plain tap water. |

My last battery was in there about 4 years (original Ford battery)
I now have an Optima Yellow Top in it. My Ford Territory still has the factory battery in it and it is 3 years old now. No issues with starting. The reason why batteries don't last as long as they used to is due to the load they have to cope with in today's vehicles ... old vehicles only needed the battery for lights, starting, radio and a few electrical things. Now there's so much electrical gadgetry ... and the constant running of ECU and so many ancilliaries ... i am not surprised they only last a short time. I guess the key is running the car constantly .... and longer trips (no stop/start/on-off). And making sure the electrical system is up to scratch as well. Good earths and good alternator/regulator.

Original AU battery got 5.5 years, i only killed it after i accidently left that stupid reading light on- doesnt shut off it you lock it. Wouldnt hold a charge after that.

Mine lasted 6 years (AU - 99) - original Motorcraft.. The short trips to the bus stop each day was what finally killed it..!!
