if you are careful and not in a hurry you can get a good well maintained AU with higher Ks at a decent price if the car has been looked after 200Ks is nothing. These cars do 8 to 900 Ks as cabs and are still going strong but i stress it needs to be well maintained

Either - there's not much difference mechanically between say an EL Futura and an AU Forte. Suspension is similar (though AU front is much sturdier), but apart from that, rear is the same, engine and gearboxes are very similar. You won't be disappointed with either, but if you can get a lower km, better maintained EL, then get that. If you are comparing 2 "roughies", go the AU - it's newer.

before i bought my first au, i loved the shape of the ef/l's, but the au is all i was able to get due to certain reasons. now, i still like the shape of the ef/l's, but i love the feeling the au gives me. it has beautiful lines, runs like a dream, and ill definitly get another one in the future if the need arises. ive had a sedan, and now have a wagon. if your going to do it up, the sedan is easy and quick to do, as wagons arent as "popular" to do up. saying that though, there is a handful of us on here that are happily modifing our wagons as we can the e series are currently being done to death with mods....its the latest mod happy vehicle as they are cheap and fairly easy to get hold of parts etc.
honestly, follow your heart, and think about what you want to do with your new ride. it needs to be practical and well suited to your needs and something you will be happy to drive around in at all times a well maintained vehicle, no matter what it is, will last you a long time and serve you well.
good luck, let us know what you decide to get.

Simply, its a newer looking car. And comparing the two, I believe the AU's shape and design has held up well, when comparing to other cars from the late 1990s and looking at the way, many models of cars have changed over the last 5 or 6 years. The EF & EL, while good looking cars, I feel are looking outdated.

3 weeks ago my brother inlaw bought a AU forte wagon very straight & clean with only 80,000km's on the clock for $6k , this was a private sale in Adelaide...
My advice , have a real good look around ,A good clean AU can be had very cheap.
