In 1966 diagnosed with "rare Muscle Disease" , missed 6 mths school (1st form) Dr's experimented with drugs & got me on my feet.
Got it again the next year , another 6 mths off school. Dr's said I wouldn't see my 18th birthday , but I buggered them , I'm over 50 and still going . :

Had a break till 1974 (continuously on medication in between) then spent 4 mths off work before coming good again .

1980 had a relapse spent 18 mths off work , eventually got back working .

Had a couple of "rough areas" (1-3 mths at a time) till 1995 and Dr's said " No More Work" and pensioned me off . In the years in between , I always had at least 2 jobs , worked my Butt off while I could , because I knew the end would come "one day"

Reason for stopping work , severe "Osteperoses" (brittle bones) only have to cough or sneeze too hard to break a rib , I've had 9 so far , and my heart has a habit of mucking up (stopped twice) and the disease is constant now. Some day's my life consists of getting from the lounge to the front verandah or to the computer , other days I can get outside and "fiddle" in the garage for a while and some days I'm able to drive my treasured Ford .

Nothing much the Specialists can do , as there are only 8 people in Australia with a similar thing . There is No Cure . My main specialist is in the Monash University dept for Neourmuscular Research .

I have lived life to the "MAX" each day at a time , I never look at tomorrow till it's here .

I'm NOT looking for Sympathy , I have a great wife who's stuck by me for nearly 30 years , great kids who are very understanding , squeezed a lifetime of living in already , fun wise and work wise .

The reason I decided to add to this thread (I've been trying to decide since it started) is to let people know that while you have good health , live EVERY day for today and if you want to do something , Do It Today , don't "put it off" till tomorrow .

Just to clarify things , I'm also on here with another "User Name" , but prefer to keep this side of my life "Low Key" . There are a couple of guys know who I am , and would prefer to keep it that way .

Thanks for reading

Bad back, so had to have a couple of days off.
Sprained ankle - about 3 days off.
Gastro - 3 days off. Metwurst certainly doesn't taste better on the way out than in...

I've been in hospital twice. Once for a travelling cyst when i was 18. Went thru the prep to go in, they checked and the cyst had gone.
2nd was a had a hernia ( 2nd biggest in the world that the surgeon had heard of )man i was impressive in jeans. My testicles were the size of bulls a few days after the op. had 4 days off work.

In 1997 I had been feeling a bit off for a few days and just thought that I had a virus or something. Just felt buggered all the time.Ended up going to the hospital as I was getting unbelievable pains in the back. Had a massive heart attack while in the emergency room. Was in hospital for 18 days, had 2 stents put in blocked arteries. Was off work for nearly 5 months. If that wasn't enough, the ******** that I had been contracting to, closed up shop and stiffed me for $40,000.(boy if I could get my hands on him) Was all good until 2003 and had a couple of angina attacks and ended up having another 2 stents put in.Another 11 weeks off work. All good now! Puts a lot of things into perspective when you come that close to dying.
The upside of it all was that I gave up smoking after the first episode and the money that I saved paid for my ute.

A few years ago I had to take 4 months off school, 2 months of these being holidays. I was spewin! After being to the doctors and to a spine specialist I found out I had scoliosis which is curvature of the spine. I had a 'zig' and a 'zag.' Which means instead of my spine being straight, it was like the shap of an S. (with two curves)
So after a 10 hour operation, 5 days of not eating and a week in hospital I spent the next 4 months in a back brace doing s*** all. Sucked! All is good now I'm back to normal, just restricted from horse riding/back jolting things. Thats my story folks

2 and a bit years ago, I ruptured a disc in my lower back. It crushed my spinal cord causing unbelieveable pain. An emergency operation later and I had no feeling and nothing worked from the waste down.

Woke up with a priest next to me, apparently I needed mega anaesthetic to knock me out. Almost didn't wake up, game over etc.

Prognosis was that may get 0% better, or 100% better, or something in between.

Anyhow, 3 months in hospital and 18 months of physio learning to walk later, I'm out and about and back to about 80% mobility. I refused to believe I wouldn't get better. The mind is a very powerful thing.

I think you guys and girls can imagine the smile when I took the Cobra for a spin almost 2 years later...

I'm sorry but that is too funny :

My longest time off work was due to a concussion suffered after falling off a female acquaintance's bed during one particularly good night of "uppy downy". Six days I was off work, the quacks in the white jackets thought I had haemorraged. Feel free to laugh your head off on my mishap.
