I went to my son's out west for a week. I found that going over pot holes or very rough roads it had the noise like a clunk. But on roads with dips and rises that are just normal on some roads out west, there was no noise at all. When I replaced the struts I did not do the top strut mounts because pedders said they were alright.
Could these be the problem ?? |

I have a similar clunk from what appears to be the front end when you hit a speed hump hard or jump on the brakes hard.
When you jump on the brakes hard enough to create the clunk and repeat the hard breaking no clunk. But if you reverse & break hard no clunk. Drive forward & jump on the brakes clunk again. Done the Pedders check had another mechanic look at it still not identifed. Has been sugested that its the rear leaf packs? May help you or me? AU2 XR6 ute. |

"Did not do up the top strut mounts" What the?
The three bolts that hold the strut to the body or the single nut on the shaft going through the top mounting plate? As far as I am concerned all of these should be tight! |

I am talking about the rubber that the center shaft comes through. all bolts are very tight. The rubber as lots of little cracks in it. from age.

sorry to hijack this thread again but my AU1 has exactly the same noise /symptoms as has previously been described! Did you ever find the cause of the noise??
