PS 3 vs Xbox?

Ive had the PS1, and PS2 in the past and got a PSP at the moment and are thinking of getting a PS3 around dec/jan , I had a Xbox recently although the graphics were good probably a bit better than a PS2 but have found that the games arent interchangable between models like the playstation. Ive seen a demo model and the graphics look as good as theyll ever get.
Anyone out there got the PS3 yet?

Have to agree, the Xbox really didn't impress. I'm just waiting for more games to come out on PS3 to give it a go. PS3 was billed to have something like 120 games good to go on release, but why didn't we see that many on the Aus release?

OK lets try and keep this civil.

Im also waiting until after xmas, I want a HD TV too as apparently you wont get the best out of it without one.

Yeah ,there will be alot more games around after xmas too , just hoping they have a GT4 out! :evil3:

GT5! GT4 is out, and is good but Ive played it for way to long..LOL

Interesting topic...

PS3 has the Blu-Ray, but I personally would not get one on release...I would prefer to wait even a few months and see a bit whacked off the price.

i'd say ps3. my son has an xbox . and wants to swap it not for an xbox 360, but for a ps3. 6 year olds know these things. but on a side note . when i bought the xbox the salesman said they were heaps better than ps2's . but i think the ps2 is better. because my brother has one . and the games are better than xbox. so i think PS3 will dominate.

Xbox 360 has HD DVD and Blu-Ray. Well .. soon. At the moment you can get the External HD DVD Drive but the Blue Ray Drive should be available in the near future for the same price.

I have played both and ultimately, the only difference is the exclusive games. I had both PS2 and Xbox and preferred the Xbox, now I have the 360 and will buy a PS3 once it drops from its ridiculous price. So far only Reason I want a PS3 is for Gran Turismo 5, hopefully this one is better then number 4 as forza 1 was so much more fun.

I like both X-Box & PS2, but my favorite game is Gran Tourismo so i'll be sticking to a PS3 for that reason alone.

I am not a console fan, but the Gran Turismo games have been among my favourite ever, along with Metal Gear and Street Fighter II.
Also loved Alex Kidd in Miracle World, along with Psycho Fox.

The blue ray is over rated and over priced if you must get a ps3 then wait till it goes down in price as they always do.

I got V8supercars 3 just recently and its ok but thought it wouldve been better than that. Might hold off getting GT4 if GT5 is coming out soon.

IS this for PS2? V8SC is pretty crap IMO.

For graphics get NFS: MW or Carbon, and GT4 should only be $30-40 new these days.

I'm sorta leaning to getting a PS3 myself (even though I just built a kick a$$ computer) just for GT4. That game is so awesome, it is in a league of its own. The closest game to it (in terms of my likability factor) is NFS Carbon.

I have a PS2 and Xbox (Actually 2 PS2s). I've played both the PS3, and 360, but I like the PS3 just a bit more.

Both have their pros, and cons. I like the Xbox more for playing DVDs, but I think the PS2 is better for games.

What about Nintendo's Wii... I think it's a great console in that it has games that almost anyone can get into when in a group..

I'm more a PC based person tbh and still find myself compelled to purchase a console of any ilk.

Wii seems a bit childish to me, and I couldn't be bothered waving things for to long. It would be ok for a week then Id get over it.

The best thing about consoles is that its all set up in your living room (or somewhere comfy) and you can use your TV. Bugger setting up a PC to do that.

Can't justify near double the price for a PS3 just yet. When it comes down and GT5 comes out so I can use my G25 wheel, then I'll reconsider.

do u have a plasma or LCD?
no use getting a PS3 for the quality if your got a 34cm CRT.....

prices dont mean a thing cause they are completely different, ones a whole new technology, whereas xbox360 is as far behind as my falcon is to a merc S class

depends id rather choose between the two because of the platform of games....ps2 had a little more range of games over the xbox, but i still went xbox cause of halo

i mean how long did u play your xbox for? 3 months now its under the bed? wait the extra 3 months and get the pack with controller and games for $200 less than now

I'd say Xbox 360 all the way... I've had one since launch and I love it.
Having played a mate's newly purchased ps3 recently, I walked away VERY dissapointed... They're great, but no better than a 360, unless you really NEED the blu-ray features.

PS3 for me when the price drops. I've got God of War II to get through on PS2 first, then God of War: Chains of Olympus on PSP. If they do GoW on PS3 then that's when I'll buy it no matter what price the console is.

PS3 devs need more time to extract everything from the box. This machine has a supercomputer processor in it, whereas the XBox is a glorified PC.

I heard some where along the lines Mircosoft are/have released a premium XBOX 360 with afew extra features and it also runs HD (thats why i bought a HD LCD TV), not sure how true this is. Im leanig towards PS3 solely for GT5, but ill hang out till the whack abit off the price.

yeah it has but since the last discussion the PS3 is actually on sale rather than just a myth.

Xbox360 for me all the way... games, price, interface, live! plus people have already hacked it. Why pay extra for the same thing with sony printed on it??? Blu-ray is awesme but movies are still too expensive and by the time they come down so will the players

Yeah, xbox live is definately awesome... Sitting in front of my 100cm LCD running at 1080i kicking *** in call of duty 3 against people on the other side of the world... priceless

Only thing i need is a decent 5.1 setup, and i'm set!

I have an Xbox 360, and I am fed up with it. I got the infamous 3 red light problem and my console was out of warranty. Microsoft wanted $200 to fix it (mind you it's a manufacturing fault and has been proven so), so I took it to a friend of a friend who can fix it for $110 and give me a warranty on it. At least it should be a permanent fix.

Every person that I have talked to that has a 360 has had the exact same problem. (One guy had it happen to him a few too many times and decided that once he got it back, he would trade up to the PS3. He hasn't looked back since.) So much for Microsoft's supposed 6% failure rate. From what I've seen it is more like a 6% success rate. For those people that say that it won't happen to them, give it time.

As for the PS3 there have been next to no actual fault found with it, that hasn't been fixed with a firmware update. (Before you say it, the 360 cannot be fixed via firmware, as the solder on the chips literally develops cracks and gaps). Not to mention that you can put linux on the console, allowing you to browse the internet on the PS3. (I'd like to see someone do that on the 360). I don't use Xbox Live anyway, I can't justify spending all that extra money just so I can play online/ against other people. (I have a 150" projector screen so I have no trouble playing split screen). Besides if you add it up, the 360 will cost almost as much as a PS3 anyway (Once you add in the wireless network attachment, HD-DVD drive). Not to mention that the core/premium system doesn't have HDMI. You have to connect it via Component or VGA for any decent resolutions. The PS3 has everything it needs built into it (hence the cost) not to mention the fact that Sony is allowing other companies to make wireless controllers/steering wheels (g25 anyone?). The 360 is stuck with the MS POS wheel, which if you read up on, is again not designed/manufactured so well (15 degrees off centre is a bit much).

So yeah I prefer the PS3 (No I'm not a fanboy) over the 360. They are both good consoles, it's just that Microsoft needs to really pick up their game and kick the manufacturers a** (not to mention allow logitech to make a proper wheel for the 360).
