Default Any other Alby Mangles fans out there??

Admitidly, im an avid Alby fan - my girlfriend hates him.

For you people who think im talking about a hip hop artist or something, ill just clear things up.
Alby is an Australian Adventurer 20 yrs before Steve Irwin was a house hold name he out sold Star Wars in the box office by showing World Safari I.
He Left Adelaide with only $400 a motor bike and a camera. He set off around the world for 6 years and came back with only 6 hours of footage.
Since then he made another 2 world safari movies and other documantaries. But after making World Safari III the critics hit him hard and he ended up bankrupt.

I like his documantaries coz he brings out all your emotions while you learn about the world. but most of the time im laughing my eyes out.

You just dont know wheather he is serious or not and he catches up with heaps of "old Flames" everywhere he goes!
*In one scene he is literally sanding back a big block of wood then the next scene he is oiling sails on a massive yacht that he apparently made which he sails around the world - it ends up burning and sinking with his opals he apparenlty spent 2 weeks underground mining for with his mate who has dynamite experience.
*When he is in new zealand he flies a plane and spots a comby van full of girls stranded on the side of the road, so he lands the plane in the paddock next to them and gives em a lift to the nearest road house.. leaving the guy they were driving with behind waving his arms madly.
*He races a horse at an outback aborigional community and wins but every one is angry as they all lost money as 'no one' beats the elder. So they put him in the back of a paddy wagon for his own safety but even the cop put money on the elder so he does not know if he will get out. So anyway he decides to race again the next day to keep every one happy. BUT he wins again!! but thats ok, coz every one put money on him this time! haha
*But one of the sadder moments is when Alby rolls his car killing a girl he was travelling with and he sends his dog Sam back to his dads farm while he recovers but after Alby recovers he returns to the farm to discover Sam had been shot. His dad said "you should have seen the size of the exit wound!".

I could go on forever about this guy and his adventures.

Anybody else remember this guy?

Judy Green! HA! yeh she was quite a looker.

He first met her in PNG after they arranged to meet after she broke up with a Saint Kilda Footy play Im pretty sure.

She arrived dressed in all white, white pants, white shirt and white shoes with her designer bag. He then took her into the jungle for the first treck which happend to be the wet season with mud everywhere. the locals thought an angel had appeared too.

He had a couple of hot girls during his travels.
I remember the controversial footage of the kangaroo hopping round with no tail, rumor has it he had a hand in it.

Alby did film a few firsts.

He was the first to film:
* An Albino African (that was freaky)
* A lone African Bush trecker.
* A tailess Kangaroo
* Giraffe crossed with something else like a zebra (cant remember)
* A maori cave grave (which he got permission to film as long as it was not shown to anyone)
* how cannibles shrink human heads
* gorillas mating.
* And a docco host (Alby) doin a poo off the side of a yacht (he got into trouble for this even tho its only a one second shot)

Yeh, The guys at work call me Alby coz i wont shut up about his adventures. I find my self talking to some people about him and they think im making him up! particularly the younger generation. But he was HUGE back in the day.
He is still making some doccos for some American documantary channel.

I would recommend watching 'World Safari II' to anyone out there that is interested in seeing what he is all about. This one is the funniest by far.

By the way, Russel Coights character is based on Alby Mangles too.

Yeah I remember the scene where his dogs were attacking a wild boar... nice filming there.

And I won't forget the time he got away from the lions in Africa... I don't know how... one second he was in a tent the next second he was up a tree.

He came in to work a few times at the height of his "fame".....

I seem to remember he was arrogant with extreme body odour........

I remember seeing one opf the Adventure Bound movies when I was a wee tacker, the one where his bull terrier died

It wasnt hard to guess it was set up, one of them he was staying in a caravan on the edge of a cliff, and suddenly an "accident" occurs when it falls off to the beach/rocks below, but camera's are in the most conveniant locations

sarrge2001, where were you working when he came into your work?

his camera shots were questionable. he only managed to get photos of his boat burning down with sound effects in the back ground.. where was the video camera?
And he was lowered off a cliff into a cave by only a rope around his waist as his mate let him down. but how did his mate, his dog and the camera man get down there? (considering it was supposed to be only alby and his mate on the adventure)

I was working in Adelaide fixing mobile phones, he was based over on Yorke Peninsula.

He'd wander in with a phone he'd trashed and expect us to drop everything because he was the great Alby........I think that the first time we did drop everything for him but the next time we just couldn't do it and he wasn't impressed and let us know it!!!!!........from then on he got the same treatment as anyone else (well, nearly the same)

It also quickly became obvious that the term "underarm deodorant" wasn't something that he was overly familar with!!!!

And unfortunately he always came in by himself - never a Judy Green to be seen..............

The credibility took a battering whenever there was a love interest introduced into what was supposed to be a documentary.....

I remember one the love interests writing a "Dear Alby" letter in one of the flicks printing it out on a big of paper in 1 inch high letters with a big black texta while he was supposedly having a bath outside....

Turns out most of his stuff was staged or made up, which he gladly admits too. The 4WD accident was staged a few days after it really happened with an already rolled vehicle.

Debatable.
Although Alby did a Ninja display at a remote town somewhere. which ended in Alby fly kicking through the lattice backdrop after missing his opponent.

Malcom's Docco's are more educational while Alby's are just purely entertaining.

(On a side note a bloke from my work left last month to go work on Malcoms Crocodile farm - lucky bugga)
