mate there are heaps of diiferent versions of that style of paint, looks great, costs a bomb and cant be repaired. but if it's for a show car thats not going to be driven much or your willing to take the risk, go for it! ppg standox dulux all have different colours, shop around. any painter should be able to apply a liberal coat of liquid gold for you. better off choosing an existing colour, or mixing one up yourself. at least you can repair it.

he is talking about the Ford factory 'fantesy' colour, but yes expensive, can be repaired but a pain to colour match.

Doesn't it cost around $1000 a litre. It did when it first came out, don't know what it would go for now but I bet its still damn expensive. Thats why it costs 3 times more than the other Ford prestige paint colours.

A guy at our work got his BF XR6 ute done in that colour, he is some heavy metal type looking dude and we all said that colour is a little crazy. His explanation was that ford told him it looks black at night

Go for it mate. The paint code is CF.
Cost is about $1200 a litre. Most repair places will go to Ford to get the colour, dont know why that is.

A touch up bottle will set you back $75ish.

I have had mine damaged. The paint is not hard to match, they just paint 'whole sides' if you know what I mean.

Good luck with your project.

Bob

But Ford buy it in bulk and probably get it for a hell of a lot cheaper than what the normal person gets it for, plus the $1500 is on top of the normal price of paint Ford would have to pay for red or white, which cost nothing extra to get. Prestige colours cost more again, then the flip paints are even more, so it would work out to be a lot cheaper for them.

cool, i though it was like harlequin, if it is a factory colour there should be no problems mix and matching it. i know some of the new colours on the market do need to be purchased for the manufacturer (mazda black). check with a paint supplier first.

Depending on the size of the car determines how much paint you may need in your case a ute, it would cost about 8-9k id say., a celica costs about $7500.

You "only" need about 4L to spray a Falcon, so you'd be looking at $4000+ with the clear coat as well.

I've heard some spray painters say it's almost impossible to match (metallics are too) if it gets damaged, and I've heard others say it doesn't matter if you can't match it exactly because you can't see that it's mis-matched. (I guess they're just lazy).

Theres another chromaflair colour called Obsession in the Ford range too, but I haven't seen it.

spot on, the repairs get expensive because if you, say damage a door, you either get the whole side painted or blend it into the other door and front or rear quater, but that needs the colour match to be spot on...

the colour can not be mixed up at any paint shop, smash repair shops purchase the colour "factory packed" meaning there is no formula,in 1L cans, all premium brands will have it.

cromaflair is a DuPont name
