Howdy doody all
a cursory glance at the discs and pads on my WP Zetec reveals that it's probably time for a replacement. The original set have seen me through for near on 90K km and I'm quite happy with that. A couple of obvious questions arise though, and I'm sure that there are obvious answers... 1. Can the discs be machined? 2. If so, is it worthwhile? 3. What is the minimum disc thickness? 4. Can anyone recommend good aftermarket discs to use? Factors are improved braking without harshness, disc / pad life and cost. As a side note, I am going to try either Ferrodo or EBC Greenstuff pads. Cheers Ali. |

I have a set of RDA slotted rotors waiting to go on (just need enough time to do it) that cost me $240 for the set and also EBC Greenstuff pads that cost me $180. Should be much better than stock

Speaking of brakes Piotr, your rear disc conversion. How hard & how much? If you don't mind me asking. Are they off a LR Focus?

I got the stuff from Pick and Payless auto parts. I pretty much got the whole rear disc assembly and handbrake cable from a LR focus. Everything cost $400.

Reviving the thread a bit...
I'm going with what Pi has suggested above - RDA slotted rotors and EBC Greenstuff pads. I had a search around for local Mintex pad and rotor distis, but not everything is available here, and I couldn't justify to myself to spend more than the above combo. For anyone who doesn't know, Mintex is highly regarded on UK and Euro forums. Question - I want to replace the brake fluid. Aside from OE, what's a good one to use to match the same sort of 'meat' I expect from the new front brakes? thanks Ali. |
