Default What's it worth?

Just thought I'd ask.

I have a 73 ZF Fairlane 500.
It is a 302 Column Auto.
32,000 ish genuine miles. Been in the family since new
White / Blue trim (Rare Factory).

Plate reads - Engine: Y Trans: R Trim: A Paint: 2

It is in original unrestored condition with only mods being
extractors & twin system and a good stereo

Like all 35 year old cars it's a little sad but is with faded paint 1 tiny rust spot. And is otherwise clean & tidy and would pass a roadworthy without touching anything.

IF it was a GT its worth plenty, a GS Fairmont a lot, but a Fairlane???

All the ones I see for sale are quite cheap. So I'm confused.

attached pic to help.

Mate, I'll take it off your hands for $500.

Seriously, if it's in excellent condition I would say you might get 4 to 5 grand with the right buyer. Theres a nice original 351 equipped ZG on carsales for a reasonable $4200 ATM.

I bought a ZF with a roady for 4G about a year ago and sold it for 2.5G about 6 months later, so there are some suckers about lol. It ended up being dodgy mechanically and electrically although there was hardly any rust and what was there was only surface. Didnt have the ridiculous low kays though.

All these guys trying to get 10 grand for their ZF/ZG Fairlanes are joking themselves.

Let me know what you want for it. I may be in the market for one in a few months.

if the body is good i would say around $1500 to $2000. but if the right person comes along maybee more. I had a guy come monday to buy a few parts and after an insane offer he left in my 351 powered zf which was a walnut glow cloth trim factory 351 t bar and lsd 9 inch (oh i miss her already).

A ZD is worth twice that of an ZF so cant really compare. If you bought it 6 years ago for 200 .... add another 0 to it now if in fair nic.

Unfortunatley they arent worth that much compared to XA-B. I would go along and say 2k + in fair nic. and down wards from there. Ones that have been for sale for 6K + seem to be hanging around for sale with no movement

Thanks to all. That fixes that. I'm in agreement by the way. If a bunch of you thought it was worth big bucks I might have put it to market. In reality it's not worth as much as big TV! I'm keeping it now.

The next question is do I restore as it has low miles and is in tidy shape, or modify it, you know 393C custom paint 20" rims etc.

Thoughts guys.

If you intend on keeping it another 10 years before thinking of selling the value will probably go up. Restoring it to original is a viable, finacially benefitial option.

If you want to build it into a street machine to enjoy as soon as possible then do that.

All I can say is that if I had it i would be building a tough streeter out of it rather than restoring it to original. But not 20" rims, pleeease!!!

20" rims?? For the love of god NO! Little looks worse on these cars in my opinion than huge wheels with low profile tyres. It's almost the equivalent of pulling the white walls and chrome hub caps off a '49 Ford and putting them on a '08 Chrysler 300C

Seriously though, restore to original condition as much as possible, then try to keep the Kays down as much as you can, that's what I would do.

That's Funny LMAO. I didn't mean it literally.

I actually hate oversize rims that are out of proportion with the car, you will note it has 14's with period correct skinny white walls and hub caps.

Restore it to original condition, but, then get new springs reset in the rear, new springs in the front, some nice rims and maybe a mild exhaust.

Then if you want to sell it, put the original/restored gear back on and you'd be looking at a higher sale price.

If you have to put a stereo in, make sure you dont butcher the dash or anything, maybe put it in the glove box, and hide the speakers. that will make it easier to change back to its original condition.

This way, you can enjoy a cool cruiser, with the ability to make it look completely showroom in just a few hours.
