Default 80,000 V6 VEs to be recalled!!!

From the Wheels website...

"Total recall
Samantha Stevens | 01/08/2008

One day after taking the unofficial gong as Australia's best-selling car, Holden has recalled more than 80,000 VE Commodores.

Every V6-engined Holden VE and WM ever sold will be recalled to fix a potential fuel line problem.

The recall has been prompted by a friction issue in the fuel lines, where one of the lines and an adjacent engine clip rubbing together could cause wear and the possible risk of an engine fire. Apparently, 20 vehicles have presented with this wear issue. A full-blown leak or fire has not been reported.

The recall affects every V6-powered VE and WM model that has been sold since its August 2006 launch up to last month - that's in the vicinity of 86,000 vehicles in almost 30 countries.

It does not affect V8-engined VE or WM models, and we are yet to confirm whether the VE Ute series is affected by the same issue.

The recall, which will be officially announced later this afternoon, is the third recall in the car's 18-month lifespan - and the second recall involving the fuel lines.

In October 2006, after two months on the showroom floor, over 1500 V8 VEs and WM Statesmans were recalled due to another 'potential fuel leak'. One month later, nearly 13,000 VEs and WMs were recalled for a separate seatbelt issue.

It is a crushing blow to the local manufacturer. This large-scale recall will not only take its toll on the brand's integrity, but will also cost GM-Holden millions of dollars.

Owners will have to visit their local dealer to have the problem rectified (details to follow)."

Looks like their billion dollar baby keeps crapping itself.
