Default The what ****e's me of thread.

Carnt people think for then selfs. I know that that is what the forumns are for, to share and to genuinely help and such but for christ sake do we have to have everyone ask stupid bloody questions all the time. Such as and this is no way meant to be having a go at anyone in paticular. Do we need to help people make a choise between what wheels to buy or should i fix my window tinting before i fix the head gasket, and will my bum look big in that car, please people there are some things you should be abel to choose for your self. Now i am not saying that all of these questions are stupid just some , i know you will all think who is this silly old barsted well i might be the one at the parts desk or the person on the phone at the service desk. If you could only look at what half the people write, most dont even think about what the are asking. As you my guess this has been a gripe of mine for some time now and have finally gotten it of my chest. :

Yes it seems weird why anyone asks what people think about some topics. ie "What looks better" At the end of the day if your paying for it then its what you think looks good that counts.

Yeah I agree, why ask for public opinion on stuff like that. It's your car, do what you want with it. If you are doing things to be popular, go buy a stock VN 6, put a cold air intake on it, chop the springs, weld the diff, whack in monster tach and whack on some 15" interceptors.

Jeez, No one is happy with what you post these days....

People get for posting stuff that is posted alot like "What is this?" or "Do i have a blown headgasket"
People get for posting there car problems like me "Your theads are boring" i get this alot (ITS A EA AND ITS A FORDFORUMS!!!)
people now crack it for posting asking for peoples thoughts on "what they are thinking of and need help"

Soon you will just be able to post iname jibberish or nothing at all.

im not sick of it at all. Sometimes people just want others thoughts ;) Nothing wrong with THAT :

I think its sometimes just the wording of threads not so much the intention. Say people who have a topic saying ie "What CD player?" its like saying what do YOU think I should get even though it might not be the intention.

I agree with the guys who said if you don't like it don't read it. I mean this is a public forum and unless it is offensive how should anyone decide if it is worthy or not of reply? If you don't want to give an opinion then don't read the thread, I don't have a VN but sometimes I like to find out how the majority feels before I go ahead with something on my car, and yes, I would love a 387 stroker in my EB.

I can see both sides of the story, and would hazard a guess that most people asking the ( stupid Q's ) are younger people, and these guys need to be able to ask thier questions no matter how stupid they may seem and is part of finding thier way in life.

On the other hand i do believe some threads are started with the idea of how many replies can i get from this as some deep down self satisfying measure but once again its about growing up.

As suggested, simply don't respond to or view the threads is the answer, in most cases they are fun to read and a natural part of the forum.

There is a Buddy/ignore function that perhaps could be applied to threads as well but probably a waste of time.

Finally my last view on this is why should not we encourage the kids to think for themself in a positive way instead of bagging them by setting good examples for them to follow.

It's a bit like watching 'The Price Is Right' sometimes.

My opinion on wheels and what model to buy is not necessarily what is right for someone else to spend money on.

I don't mind making suggestions, or giving advice, but if someone is going to live by what other people think then they need to stand back and take a good long look at their life.

If you need help then fee free to ask questions.
Bit I do agree with CH7472 about questions regarding taste. You car, do what you want, not based on the outcome of a poll. Your car is a reflection of you not the opinions of a forum!

i don't have a problem with question asking threads. like many have said you can always move on. the threads that **** me off are the ones that turn into a "days of our lives" between a few. like "my cat just got run over, i'm sooo upset"..............................i usually move on sleep:

Well said

I am really really really dumb when it comes to fixing my car and so I ask the Yodas on here. If I didn't have this place, my car would've been worse than it is. And if I feel that my question is going to be seen as "stupid" from now on then I won't ask now will I? I will get all self-conscious and maybe something irrepairable may happen to my car.

I need to know stuff, such as step-by-step instructions on how to change the rotors... which brake pads work best... whether slotted or crossdrilled work better than standards and why... how to tell if my head gasket is blown... how to wire up my amp properly so I don't blow anything... etc etc.

I also like to talk absolute rubbish, gossip and generally have a damn good laugh.

Who do you think you are, CH7472, to decide what is a crap posting and what isn't? What is silly to some maybe informative or interesting to others.

If you aren't interested, don't read it.

Just IMHO btw. :

I have no problem with advice on repairs, parts, and possible causes of a problem/diagnosis, that what it is all about really. I just never saw the importance of someone elses personal opinion of what mods suit everyone.

As already stated it is a personal choice thing when deciding what colour to spray your own car, or should the owner get a certain interior.

Stuff like 'What car sound system should I buy?', or 'Is it worth the money to chip mu computer?' are fine, because that comes down to good and bad points discovered by those who have used the product, but "Does everyone think I should buy these wheels for my car?" is something only the person spending the money should decide upon (and maybe their other half).

At the same time, if someone asks where they can find a business who sells/fits a particular brand/model of a product, unless someone has legitimate info on why an alternative product is better, then they shouldn't comment. There are plenty of examples, I'm sure, of someone being hassled over their choice for no good reason.

Well this problem wouldn't arise if you just don't read those posts', its quite simple really, all you have to do is hover the mouse over the topic and it will give you a description, so you already know the first few sentences before you even go into the thread, and if you don't like it, its also as simple as clicking the back button in the internet toolbar.

So people don't read things that will just get you ****ed off.

that final suggestion, Heeno, is a good one but unfortunatly some threads get hijacked, which, sometimes leads to annoyance.

The quality of most threads in the bar and pub threads sections are just plain awfull. I think it really casts a shadow over what AFF looks like to the outside world.

I could count the amount of times ive seen a very intresting thread on one hand.

Thankfully, going to specific sections (eg. v8 tech) has generally more interesting and certainly more informative threads.

Ah yeah, I am guilty of that at times... going off on tangents _ At least I am aware of it now and trying to stop.

Although could this be considered a thread hijacking?! :gren:

Well I have a couple of opinions on this ...

Everyone has a right to ask questions no matter how stupid other people think it is. Asking on a forum whether or not to (for example) tint your car windows is no different to asking your mates "do you reckon I should tint my windows" It's a general question that people like opinions on.

Sometimes it's just innocent naivety (<--spelling) or an ice-breaker to get to know the people on the forum or to just get some sort of conversation (especially if you're a newbie) and yes sometimes the questions are just plain stupid but, people should feel comfortable asking questions regardless of how silly they may seem. Isn't that part of why we're all here? To teach and learn?!

I'm guilty of asking "stupid" questions myself and will continue to do so LOL :P Me personally - if I don't know then I'll ask and I don't care how silly it seems
