Default How to change the wiper blades

OK - here is a numbskull question. My 2006 LS Focus wipers could do with a new rubber.

The blades on these look like nothing I have had before - and the owners manual shows pictures of blades like those on my old mondeo - not what is actually fitted to the car.

So how do you change them, and is it a whole new unit or can you just change the rubber? (and how do you get them apart??? cheers Zane

Got all the pics and stuff but bluetooth is giving me s***

Ok keep in mind you risk stuffing up the end covers/clips so proceed at your own risk. You'll need to get 330mm long wiper rubbers, I had to take mine off conventional metal blades sold at supercheap. I got some graphite ones for about $9.

Swivel the blade so the rubber is facing the sky, then slide the blade assembly out.

With the curved top of the blade housing facing away from you on the left clip, slide flat screwdriver almost in the middle of the curve. Bring in and out to find the right spot (that's what she said!) and it the end cover/clip should fly off somewhere in the garden/garage you'll never find it again. Too bad, you need it so spend the next hour looking for it.

Once you find it you can proceed. You should have exposed a sort of locking tooth for the rubber, Again slide the screw driver under and turn it to bring the tooth up.

The rubber should slide out. Insert the new blade, trim to size, make sure the blade housing is in the correct spot and crush the locking tooth back down. Put the end cover back on and your good.

I was under the impression that you had to replace the whole arm rubber, but that solution sounds cheaper as I'm sure Ford don't sell them cheap.

Some pics would be great as I'd like to know how it's done as well.

(With the curved top of the blade housing facing away from you on the left clip) <<< Reading ove this is confusing... Let me clarify:

On the top of the wiper blade, there will be curved vertical to horizontal side, about 2cm wide. On the left end of the blade is a clip, this is where you need to slide the flat screwdriver almost in the middle of the curve.

Bring in and out to find the right spot and the end cover/clip should fly off somewhere.

You should have exposed a sort of locking tooth for the rubber, Again slide the screw driver under and turn it to bring the tooth up.

The rubber should slide out.

Once again LS saves the day, boy I wish I had your patience. I just "test drive" wipers from the lot..... until now that it's economical.

No its not.

Ford want you to replace the whole aero blade for $90 or some such nonsense

BLS has detailed how to pull it apart and replace the rubber only...

Enjoy.

You have got to be kidding..... $90 bucks for some melted plastic and rubber... WTF???

So what your telling me, Is that ford have found another way to make a buck, by integrating the whole blade together, instead of having a separate blade & rubber...

Hmmm, European design at work maybe???

Default Many Thanks

I tried to wrestle mine apart (before the Pics were posted). I gave up!

I bought the whole replacement unit, was $56 for both front wipers (non genuine), not as bad as $90 but a whole lot worse than $12 for the rubber blades.
