Default need help urgent!

we`ve just bought an AU GLI FORD SEDAN &AFTER TAKING IT FOR DRIVE (5K)IT STALLED ,GOT HOME &COULD SMELL GAS &IT DUAL FUEL LIFTED UP BONNET &LOOKED LIKED GAS HAD FROZEN OVER HOSE &CYLINDER!CAN URREGO CAN ANYONE HELP PLZ?NO NOTHING BOUT THESE NEW CARS!!

In a car I used to have, the converter was blocked. I flushed the radiator, and the converter with a hose, and it solved the problem for me. Worth a shot!

The converter needs water flowing to prevent freezing. When the motor is warmed up there is no problem the engine bay heat and water temp even without flow takes care of thingsbut when it is a cold engine it can freeze easily. Most installers do a crude chop into the heater lines without even determining the flow direction. What may help is to always make sure your heater tap is open (heater on as often it stops flow with it off) for the first few K's to allow the water to circulate better. This usually alleviates it but if it continues take it and have your high pressure and low pressure heater lines out of the block dtermined and make sure it is all plumbed correctly. I fitted a small diameter bypass on mine also to ensure permanent flow even without the heater tap open.

we use a small (3/8") bypass line under the intake manifold next to the coil pack for water. never have a problem with flow. if the converter freezes, its quite possible you have a blockage in the system, or an air lock, or the thermastat is faulty.
going for the easiest option, to fix an air lock in the cooling system, with the header tank cap off, run the motor for 5 minutes with the heater on. this opens the heater tap and allows a full flow of the coolant system. this will clear the airlock....you may need to fill the water upafter or even during this also.
if this fails to stop the converter from freezing, flush the coolant system. for this you will need the specified coolant to replace the old stuff with (not sure exactly wich one is specified, i just use the one we have at work) pull the bottom radiator hose off and the thermostat housing off (this kills 2 birdds with one stone....bare with me) putn your garden hose into the thermostat bowl and push the water through the holes there. this will circulate the water through the coolant system. you can also push it through the header tank, as this will clear through the radiator. once the water starts coming out clean (can take a few minutes), undo the water lines on the converter. be sure you know which one went were as on some converters it matters which way the water flows. using your garden hose again, flush the converter (checking if there is a direction of flow first and going that way) and push the water down the lines to and from the converter. with any luck the water coming out of the radiator or thermostat will be clear. if not you will have a flow problem and if after the flush you still get a frozen converter, you will need to take it to a mechanic to get the system inspected properly.
While the thremostat is out when doing the flush, check it for operation. using a thermometer (kitchen thermometer for cooking) place the thermostat into a pot of water and bring to the boil, wacth for when it opens and check at what temp it does. should be around 85 - 90 if it goes higher then this or doesnt open at all by the time the water is boiling, it will need replacing. if you need to replace it, make sure you get an LPG specific thremostat, they are slightly different to a regular one.

thanks for the replys!,to start with we only just bought this car &know "0"on this engine or how it works,was just driving on petrol then car stalled,tried to start twice then got it home(200m)then was not game enough to strike a match!opened up bonnet &saw hose &steel had frosted over!.help not sure where to start to even look?PLZ

Not being picky, but Ive never heard of an AU GLI, thought they went out with the E series.

Ah the memorys years ago, driving home on on cold nights with my old XE running straight gas and had a small leak in my radiator ! , I only had to loose about an inch of water out of that radiator and i'de be on the side of the road pee'ing on the convertor to defrost it , then topping the radiator back up , hehehe .

If you have no idea on where to start after all the help i just gaveyou, youd better take it to a mechanic mate. main reason being you could make things worse yourself. if you dont have the money for a mechanic, get a friend who is at least mechanically minded and see if they will help you. dont come on here asking for help then turn around and get the 5h1t5 because you dont know where to start when somebody goes out of their way to help a fellow AU duel fueller.

Hey guy`s, i didn`t get upset with anyone ok &appreciate all the advice given.trying to work on anything after a 74 model car is new to me,puting 92`s into old ek`s was lot easier than looking under cars of today!.once again thank`s for input.cheers :lookedat:
