Hi All,
I want to get a little more sound out of my exhaust and have been considering a change to the cats back system. I currently have extractors, highflow cats and a 2.5" cats back system (Don't know what brand any of it is) It still sounds very timid. I have heard that a 3" cats back would be a little droney, and a 2.5" or 2.25" twin would be the way to go. My question is this; I can get hold of an XR8 stock cats back system for a good price (Second Hand). Would this be a good swap for my aftermarket single 2.5" cats back system? Will it have a better note? it's a nice cheap option if it is going to give me the sound gain I am looking for.. Cheers! |

it wont sound like anything special.
if you got this system cheap, and changed the mufflers and took out the resonators then it would sound nice.

Note though, that most XR8 owners go for either twin 2.25" or 2.5" or single 3". Single 3 can be droney, but not if you use a rear resonator/hot dog. I've had single 3" on both an AU2 V8 forte, and an AU1 XR8, and neither car droned as such.

Yes both cars have IRS, the XR8 one wll fit. From what I have read the stock one wont be any better then my aftermarket 2.5" single.
What should i be paying for a decent 2.25" or 2.5" twin cats back system. I have found a 3" single for around $400 is that a good price? |

The twin system will be around double that (anywhere from $600 to $1000).

Whilst I reckon a dual 2.25" system is pretty ideal for these 5L, I would probably still stick with what you currently have as it's probably still ok, and it'll save you spending too much money.
What you likely need is just a better quality muffler in your current system. You could likely get a very good quality unit fitted for less than $200.

Spoke to my regular exhaust shop today. Basically said it is not worth replacing my single 2.5" with a stock XR8 twin.
Did some ringing around to his suppliers and could only find a stainless steel Defillipo twin system for around $1300 to $1500 (OMG). No other twin systems were available. He said he could fabricate me a system for around $1100. Options now are; Buy a Defillipo system (Not likely) Get a system fabricated for $1100 (Not likely) Buy a 3" system for around $450 Buy a new highflow muffler for my current 2.5" single system ($200??) Keep looking for a reasonably priced twin system ( Who makes 2.25" or 2.5" twin systems to fit my car? What brand of muffler should I look for if I decide to replace the 2.5" one I have already? Will it need to be welded in place or could it be clamped on? |

No not supercharged anymore Peuty.
Had my fun then sold the bits for almost as much as I spent. I ended up about $800 out of pocket but I got the CAPA edit box out of it. I actually sold the blower head unit for a fair amount more then I paid for it. I'm hoping to max out my gas kit with NA engine mods (190rwkw same as the max I got with the SC install). Have done Cam, roller 1,72 rockers, springs and some head porting but I think I will need some AFR heads to reach my goal. Booking in for a full edit tune at G&D or Bluepower as soon as I sort out this cats back exhaust. |

Hi Guy's,
Can anyone advise who makes a twin system for my car? I'm very close to just buying the 3" single because I just can't find a twin for a decent price (below $1300). |

And you won't get a decent twin system for much less than that....
A single 3" will probably do the job you want but playing russian roulette on drone..

Why don't you just do the muffler on your current system as suggested.
If you still don't like it, at least the muffler can be used on the twin system if you end up changing. A muffler change WILL give you what you want, no question.

As I said in the thread, I had more fun building it then I did driving it.....might sound strange but I just love a fabrication challenge. If I could mandrel bend pipe I would just fabricate this twin system myself!!!!. I struggle to see how I can pay $300 for a single 2.5" cats back system but a twin costs $1200 (double the pipe, double the resonators, 1 twin high flow muffler V's 1 single high flow muffler = 4 times the price?????.......Just dosen't make sense. SOX, what brand of muffler will give me the best flow/sound?.....I think I will give this option a try. |
