Default AU XR8 and octane booster?

Hi,

I recently filled up my car with the only premium in town... 95 octane and added in octane booster to see how it goes..... Alas it ran good for about 2 minutes, but than once 2nd gets in, the car starts jerking, exhaust backfiring like the car is struggling to accelerate or somthing?

Feels similar to when we boosted my mates 6 turbs and the spark plugs need regapping.....

Does anyone know wat this is? I'm pretty sure its the octane booster but why?

Cheers Guys

you can reset ECU now - as if its running "that" bad, it could cause a little more stress than it needs

Then ECU reset again once you fill up the tank again

Yes I mknow why.I bet 10 dollars that your spark plugs are orange and your injectors are blocked with the same orange powder.Octane booster and those bottled injector cleaners block the injectors and foul the spark plugs.Run bp ultimate next tank and pray it cleans the engine .If not remove the plugs..replace em.Then if it doesnt fix.Remove the injectors and get them cleaned. cheers.Nothing to do with the computer.

I refuse to belive a bottle of octane booster has done this unless there was something wrong with it. Maybe a batch of bad fuel?

I know unequivocally that each time i ran octane booster my plugs go orange..get fouled and my injector nozzles get an orange film as well
If the additive companies want me to show them i can.

+1 for bp ultimate!
dont tell anyone but my mum prefers the 7/11 premium which is probably watered down to about 2 octane...

Vortex98 is the best "cleaning" fuel. BP Ultimate is up there with Shells PULP - block up everything in your engine after a while, but believe what you like.

To the OP - have you checked your MAF is connected? Sounds like the car is running pig rich.

I put the NOS brand booster in the blue bottle in my xr8 ute I had a couple of years ago and it blew 2 ports on the exhaust gasket. Unless you've ggot a car that pings on pump fuel it's really a waste of money

How much would Ford charge me to replace spark plugs and clean injectors you guys reckon?

Cos its just ridiculous... I'm driving throught town and people are ducking thinking im doing a drive by! Thats how bad thebackfring is!

Any recomenndations on spark plugs? Reckon new leads are worth doin to?

I dunno i just wanna drive normally

Are these any good?

dont put the car under load too much, and just drive it around as much as possible.

then fill it up on a decent tank of bp ultimate,

the only reason i used to run it in my car, was my 98 octane custom tune use to ping at high rpm. in the end my solution was just to run my 95 octane tune and bp ultimate for a sacrifice of 2-3rwkw.

Don't buy those plugs, even NGK admit they aren't the correct one for the 220 XR8.

NGK BPR5EFS-13 is what you are after, best of all they are the cheap $4 a plug type.

They have a 1.5 gap whereas Ford specify that you need a 1.3-1.4 gap.
