I hope for your sake that your comment wasn't directed at me - have you actually seen what I drive? Back to the topic, I stand by my comments. It's not just the green screens - if Holden can fit a decent IRS (on a stiffer chassis), better gearbox & diff, and storm into the 21st century with some colour screens (which aren't placed at the BOTTOM of the console!!!), then there will be MUCH less to critisize. As it is, they are *nearly* all engine and nothing else, save for some reasonable levels of tyre grip (it ain't coming from the chassis, and I am well qualified to comment on chassis competence thank you very much!) The only other thing I see going for them is a better choice of leather colours etc. over the BA.

Arr the green screens. ok, ok, well I have to admit I blocked them out the equation. Just figured it was obvious that it wasn't one of the VY SS's strong points, but you get that. My impressions on the interior were primarily focused on the seats. The BAXR8 seats were nice, but only up until recently was leather a no cost option. Same with the alloys pedals and little things like that. Like it or loath it, as sporty presentation the all over bold coloured seats and with alloy touches was quite nice IMO.

Like you at this stage I have no plans to buy one of my own, but that doesn’t stop me enjoying the one I have for a little while either. It’s just nice to be back in a V8. Even a Holden one.e

I know 18s and Prestige sound are free, not sure about leather.

There is(or was) a run out special on some models which includes free leather I think now. I could be wrong but.

Geepers, when I started this thread I didn't expect it would end up getting someone banned. It's all good discussion and fun fellas, lets not get too heated about it. I'm not buying the thing and I'm not posting this on a Holden forum to get a reaction either. It's just some interesting discussion among forum mates who share the same passion and interests.

Despite my anti-Holden bias, I actually quite like the VY/VZ interior, moreso then BA's, and I like the door's. Light doors annoy me, I never close them right. I always think they're fragile or something, so I close them lightly.. heh. I like heavy doors, solid feeling is a good one.

Yeh Free leather or $2ks worth of Options but that has now ended i think, unless Ford dragged it on, was till end of July.

I think a bit of discussion is harmless, but people like T2TE50 are better off banned if they are going to carry on like that.

dad bought home his boss's VY series 1 SS sedan, i don't think they go as well as his XR6T put it that way. It felt cheap.. but looking at my dads XR6T, it feels cheap too.. just quicker. BA looks and go's better, can't really comment on build quality as dads BA is a shocker.

Have any of you who are bagging the 5.7L LS1 actually driven one HARD .. not just a casual drive up the shops to buy a pie in your mates ute or whatnot? Stocky LS1s (like mine) are pretty docile things in normal commuting .. but put the boot into them and crank up the revs and that mechanical beast will rear its head.

I concurr with the original authors thoughts .. especially the "mechanical" noise. The Ls1 is pretty noisy, but after awhile it's kind of reassuring, like a noisy watch or an angry sound, like a mechanical monster under the hood (except when it develops into piston slap, gudgeon-ping noise, etc :( ).

Yep, this is the "Australian Ford Forums", but how about a little open-mindedness?? Just hate Holdens 'cos they are Holdens?? How about we put export badges on them and call them Chevrolets? To most blue-blood, anti-Holden members .. just be thankful you weren't looking for a new car after '83 when Fords idea of performance was 4.1 I6. It took Holdens continued support of "performance" to drag Ford kicking-and-screaming to the position it is today. Now Ford is performance oriented and loving it. Thanks Holden ..

At least with the SS I'm not at risk of actually buying it in a weak moment. Now if I was driving a series 1 or Mk2 GT....

As you say it's great to just enjoy trying other cars when the opportunity arises. Makes you appreciate more your favourite examples IMO.

Can't agree enough. I've been lucky enough to drive a VT SS Ute with just an exhaust system, and by jeez that thing flys!!! The only thing I didn't like was the response down low in the rev range as you'd put the pedal to the metal and it wouldn't just burst to life like the Clevo. But than get above 4000rpm and it's a very rapid car to drive.

Unfortunately I've never had the oppurtunity to drive a modern V8 ford, so can't compare but the LS1 is an impressive unit regardless :sm_headba

Personally when I'm looking to buy a car, price is the first consideration followed by power/weight ratio then exterior looks. Factors such as reliability, resale, and safety equipment would then be examined.

Anything else is a bonus and things like screen colours, doors weights, material the ash tray is made out of ect would not effect my buying decision in any way - though would be fun to argue over after buying the car.

That's interesting. I tend to come from the opposite angle. I decide what car I would love to own first, then work out a way of generating the funds to pay for it! Come to think of it I treat most purchases that way...:hihi:

Holdens Doors have always been bad. I have always found i feel safer behind the wheel of a falcon than i do of a holden. Even though the holden doors feel heavier, when u just look at it, imo, it really doesn't give me any confidence. They look flimsy, where as i believe the falcon doors look strong. just my 2 cents

Not having a go or anything, but what exactly is a VT SS Ute? During the VT days, they had the VS Series III Commodore Ute's, all the way during VT/VTII, and they all used the Holden 5.0litre. The VU (based off VX) was the first new-shape Commo ute, first one with the LS1.

For me price is the most important factor to work out first - i derive my performance kicks from the bike, so i'm really not going to waste too much money on a car - but i still dont want to drive an ugly slug (all very complicated). :

Sorta defeats the purpose of having a big cube V8 (these days) doesn't it?
I mean, if I wanted a peaky motor, where all the action happens up top, I wouldn't be looking for a big V8 car. Maybe a Honda Integra or something.
I've driven an auto VU SS, but because of its high gearing, to drive it hard and experience all the top end power would probably have my license taken off me (somewhere around 140-150kmh in 2nd gear iirc)...
I can't really draw conclusions, but I think it would be better suited to the 6spd, auto just doesn't do it justice.

Car I drove was in fact a 2002 VU SS Ute with LS1. I can't see the difference between the front of these utes and a VT sedan, the point is it had an LS1. Besides, I'm blue blooded and really don't give a stuff what it was.

Only seen manual, but the ratios are definetly better for the real world, although you'd be breaking speed limits no worries in 2nd gear still.
