couldnt see that this had been posted anywhere but please remove if it has been.
Apparently with the updates that are coming for commodore is a 3.0L V6 motor which will use direct injection (which there has been much speculation about).. its possible that the updated motor will also lose power from the current 175kw havent posted a link before so i hope this works.. http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/Ar...3496&pg=1&vf=0 |

I like the 190kw in my factory standard 2006 VZ SV6 which only chews the same amount of fuel as the standad 175 kw version of lesser models.
To go a smaller engine and drop the power may not mean much in the feel of the car as they plan to back it with a 6 speed auto which may bring back the driverbility. |

or they could just have kept the ecotec which chewed way less fuel than the alloytec
i had VYII and VZ wagons back to back as work cars and i have a photo of me doing 7.7l/100 on the VYII, i regularly did low eights on my highway runs then i got the VZ, more's the pity, and only twice did i manage to get that torqueless wonder into single digit fuel economy same roads, same trips, same driving style.

They would want to make sure it has good power still, otherwise they well end up with an under powered barge!

They had advertised the Alloytec as Smoother, Quieter and Faster then the ecotec. They got it so wrong I was working at a Holden dealer when it was released and the motor was terrible slow and was so noisy you had to turn the stereo right up to drown out the motor whine.

Only helping Ford here 3.0L will be useless for Towing so there goes all the oldies caravans and any tradesman with a brain.
Will still get thousands of mindless fools thinking smaller = less fuel consumption.. Next they will go back to the 4cyl commodore.. :P |

Something I read elsewhere:
This will be what is called the "Cadbury Commodore" - Smaller engine, lower power, same price.

I do hope they implement DI and whatever else they can muster on both 3L and 3.6L engines. It's good to have a strong competative rivalry between Ford and Holden. Obviously I want Ford to have the lead but the word 'complacency' comes to mind when thinking about development 1988-2002 and 2002-2010. |

Is this the 3.0Litre Holden's on about? :
GM High Feature engineFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 3.0 [edit] LF1 The LF1 is a 3.0 litre version equipped with Direct Injection. In standard tune it produces 255 hp (190 kW; 259 PS) and 214 ft·lbf (290 N·m) of torque[1] Fuel economy 4-6 km/lite in city, 7-9.8 km/lite on highway. Applications: Year(s) Model Power Torque 2010 Buick LaCrosse 2010 Cadillac SRX[2] 265 hp (198 kW; 269 PS) 223 ft·lbf (302 N·m) 2010 Chevrolet Equinox 264 hp (197 kW; 268 PS) 214 ft·lbf (290 N·m) 2010 GMC Terrain Power looks reasonable, torque however is pathetic for a full sized RWD sedan, direct injection or not. The applications listed above are all mid-size Cross-over AWD's except for the Buick which is a Mid-sized FWD sedan. Maybe Commodore will beat Falcon to the front-wheel-drive punch.

I have the 'pleasure' of having a VE 'Sports'wagon with rattletec V6 at work. It's so thrilling, it's gone ~3000km in the time we've had it - a week after the sports wagon was released (mid last year). No one wants to drive the damn thing, and the Falcon wagons carry more so get used more.
Alloytec = EPIC FAIL

kuzman89 the buick and ecotec sounded like they use a bag of ball bearings opposed to oil at services, and the alloytec sounds like a weezing old man after a 10k run at anything above 4000rpm.
torqueless souless useless.

Alloytech= torqueless wonder
I had the "pleasure" of a drive in a VE rental last month, gutless wheezing piece of crap. The normal work rental is an Aurion, and its an absolute screamer, smooth and economical compared to the Rattletech. The wife has a VY with an Eco motor, which is still no where as smooth as a ford offering, but at least it has some sort of soul and a bit of low down torque. I can't wait to see Holdens next advancement in engine design. Little twin cam screamers suit light weight cars or front drives like the Aurion, not a Commodore.

Why do so many people place so much importance on a pov pack 6 cylinder model. A to B is what they are used for so why bother making some fully sick performance engine?
It is a waste of money and only useful for the people who can't afford a high performance car but want a good modding base to start from for a little bit more go. |

Because Holden market it as the smoothest, most refined, fuel efficient engine in an Australian car...
Which it isn't.... And it may be Pov pack, but it represents the largest proportion of engines in these vehicles.
