polishing metal parts help

hey i was woundering whats the best way to polish a rocercover and other bits?

i was just after a list of things i may need or ways/technics i can use?

i understand its a bit of work but i dont mind,

Im doing a head/plenum/intake pipes on a XF and wish I never started. Depends on the finish you want though you can go crazy.

Also to add to that, put some dishwashing detergent in the water for your wet and dry, makes it a tad easier to work with

hey thanks i looked for ages for something along those lines and couldnt find anything just bits and peices here and there

Only thing I can advise is dont take any shortcuts, I file finished all my parts to remove the seam lines in the castings and hit with an orbital sander on the larger parts, but 90% of the sanding I did by hand until I worn the ends of my fingers off each night

I did the same thing AUIIISR.
I started on my XF plenum but shortly gave up on getting a good polished finish and ended up just smoothing it all out with a file and angle grinder sanding disc, then painted it black.

Ive been at it casually over the last 6 months, the cast pattern on the top of the plenum and rocker cover i havent decided if ill paint it yet, it will take a very long time to get every bit polished 100%. but then im a perfectionist. I used a dremel and a good set of chinese files for sanding the fiddly parts on the tubes, was well worth the money IMO, im doing the the cast bit that connectes the tubes and injectors to the block atm and is by far the hardest ive done to this point.

Evaultion is you will get what you put in, and will take forever, but the finished product is amazing!~
