Lightbulb V8 dual cab utes

And I'm not talking about the Crewman either.

The rise of 'lifestyle' vehicle choices has seen the current generation of dual cab utes sell very well and why not - they are now very well equipped, comfortable, have increased utility over passenger cars and have many of the creature comforts and systems that normal cars have. They look great too. But still, makers of these vehicles have not broken out of the diesel and 4cyl petrol mindset, although most of them now offer V6's.

With this in mind, could makers of these vehicles come up with a dual cab with a V8 option? Toyota and Nissan, I'm looking at you. Particularly as they both have modern high tech all alloy V8's in their corporate arsenals.

It's worth pointing out too, that the US market version of the Nissan Pathfinder (which uses the same F-Alpha platform as the Navara and is basically the same as the AU market Pathfinder) is available with a 5.6 litre V8 option:

Whilst its not as easy for the Hilux, as it would appear the US market version doesn't have a V8 either, there is still the 4.5 litre V8 as fitted to Landcruisers. There is also the 5.7 Lexus-only motor.

Would a dual cab V8 4x4 or AWD ute sell in Australia? Discuss.

If it is petrol then the rural market will ignore it and it will go the way of the F6X, XUV et al. as a "seemed like a good idea at the time".

Funny you mention this me and a mate were talking about this last night .
We both want one and both agreed the f-trucks are to big to consider talking it off the highway .
On gas it will yeild costs equal to or less then a diesel will a lot more power to boot.
Flappist is right though with out diesel it wont get bought buy the mining company's or many farmers .
Dont know about looking at toyota or nissan though . Holden colarado/dmax is just begging for a ls motor .

Well the rest of australia needs to pull there finger out . Im not sure but i guessing its the other side of australia thats bringing it to us .
Even if its not cheap where you are im guessing that your diesel is as equally as expensive here diesel is almost premium ulp prices

thats it flappist. well gas is readily available at a lot of outlets even in regional areas, the price is sometimes far from what you would pay in metropolitan areas. I remember when LPG here was at 45cpl in rocky it was 80 - 90c/l even in townsville it was 79c/l
I will have to see what its fetching now as in brisbane it is around 66/cpl so getting higher all the time, add in that lovely 12.5c excise coming in..

Snappy in QLD majority of the time DIESEL is cheaper then Unleaded... especially on days like today where they have jacked the price of fuel up from 1.19 a litre to 1.38 a litre because "they can"

good old supply and demand eh. LPG is dear rural areas due to the cost of transportation and that same fact that they dont use much out of metro areas. the cabbies in rocky tell me they dont bother with gas, too expensive and noone does the work there or something like that. mind you I have seen a prius on lpg...

Could see why its that dear i used to live rural and at the time lpg was about 25-30cents a litre

im talking about now tho, its pretty dear. what is the price of gas in geelong these days? as compared to ulp/premo/diesel.


anyways OT, I think our lovely QLD govt would kill it off with ridiculously high registration costs due to being
A: V8
B: UTE.
up in the vicinity of 1200 bucks a year for registration is a bit much eh!

You have it pants on backwards, the market here is unanimously diesel and
unlike cheap gasoline USA, buyers here demanded diesels for better fuel economy.

You may be able to sell a V8 dual cab pick ups in Australia but I think that market is extremely limited.

I ticked yes, but without the "hell yeah" until I see a prcie on one.

My wishlist for our second car:

4x4, Dual-Cab, V8 Diesel, Leather, Roof, all electrics - sub $50k please ;)

While F250 Upwards may be "too Much" the F150 isn't that big even in duel cab.

I'd jump at the chance of a decent on and off road 4x4 V8 whether it be Petrol or Diesel.

Toyota Tundra is alot more apealing to me than the Hilux, same can be said for Ford, Nissan & GM's products we get here V the US Market.

It is a bit much for rego gas is less the half the cost of ulp or diesel gas is ussally around 60c ulp/diesel cycles between 1.20- 1.40

My mates got one doesn't fit in a parking space or a normal garage and to high for alot of underground carparks . Honeslty it annoy's him to no end and it would annoy me to no end aswell. I love them but so unpractical for a daily
Also try parking your xr8 right beside one it absolutly dwarfs it . I parked mine next to my mates f-truck and my ute looked like somthing you used as a step to get in side it.

I drove Nissan Titan for a while when I was in California.

A wicked machine, and a ripper V8 too.

Its a damn shame we don't get the best choice of commercial vehicles out here in Australia.

I didn't make it clear in the first post, but I was referring less to rural and commercial buyers and more to city-lifestyler-types or performance buyers who want a bit of extra utility who would probably be the only buyers of such a vehicle.

Which is me. I like having a V8's and Ute's, but with a baby I need to sell my XR8 Ute and get something with 4 doors.

My wife doesn't have the greatest back so it needs to be high (just sold the GT and bought her a Lexus RX for the same reason) and if I'm going to buy a Ute like that, I may aswell have 4x4 so we can use it on the beach and at the boat ramp (if I get my way )

That may be the case in Brisbane....

I would beg to differ.
I havent seen many places in QLD where Diesel is cheaper then Unleaded.
And if it is cheaper its only by a few cents.

ill check when im in townsville next what the go is but its cheaper on the expensive fuel days here because we get a weekly price fluctuation. up north its fairly steady.

If your wife has a bad back stay away from anything that is 4x4 and ute your wife will be in tears by the end of the street.
Pov pack seat and stiff suspension terrible combo and the reason I dont own one now. Although to be fair i never test drove a hilux

Yes its steady as its always more expensive then brisbane lol
I drove back from Brisbane just before Christmas and found everywhere past the sunshine coast had Diesel dearer then unleaded.

If that isnt a con job by the fuel companies then I dont know what is

Good tip and one I have generally overlooked. I noticed a few kits for Rodeo's that are pretty squishy and had thought about looking at them. Thanks for the reminder.

In a heavy vehicle a diesel has FAR better fuel economy.. No matter the initial cost of fuel.. It would need to be 50% more expensive to be even ...
My Rodeo I fill up every second day.. The 3.0 ltr turbo diesels last nearly a week..
4 to 5 days... Toyota's & Mitsi's diesels...All take TMK about $80 to fill...
