I've got a mate who's flying to the Gold coast in a couple of weeks to check out a 67-68 mustang that his lad wants to buy. It's supposed to have had a full strip down resto and is in the process of being reassembled. Unfortunately he knows bugger all about mustangs and apart from a cursory once over to look for obvious problems, he wouldn't know what to look out for as far as problem areas go.
So can any of you mustang guys give him a few pointers on what to look for and what questions to ask so at least he's got a clue otherwise I'm worried the seller is going to see him coming and could potentially do a number on him. He and his family are good christian souls and tend to be trusting and see the best in everyone and don't tend to look over their shoulders for the knife in the back, if you know what I mean. Cheers Bushbasher

Matey, unless the vehicle is of intrinsic value, then you're best to just treat it like any other vintage vehicle and look for the usual issues with ALL vehicles of that age...
eg: rust, rust, rust ...did I mention rust! try to ask for the photos of the build to see how good the virgin steel was before the migging started ... (if any) ...but unlikely (probably ... even by the owner before him). If the vehicle is of intrinsic worth eg: Is is a: GT BOSS MACH1 big block SHELBY HIPO then you better know exactly what you're looking for! (go to the moca forum and find some in your area to go and take a look also) MOCA = Mustang Owners Club of Australia. If the vehicle is none of the above, just look for the normal things... If he knows nothing about cars, then it's a real good thing that he's buying a restored one ... good luck ...

Rust in the floor pan is a big one thats easily covered up. Try to find where it came from originally. If it's a Texas or Californian car for example then it's come from a dry climate and are usually rust free.
