A recent popular thread about dirty little car secrets has reminded how much I love Japanese cars from around the 60s and 70s. I'm curious to see if its just me or if there are any other enthusiasts out there on AFF. Don't know what it is they just have this retro coolness to them...
I'll start with not one but two; 1968 Toyota 2000GT - Rare as hens teeth these days...but one of the best looking things to ever come out of Japan. 1973 Toyota Celica GT - Another very rare version of the Celica back when they were RWD and awesome. And yes, i am also a toyota nut. |

Huge soft spot for the Datsun 1600!
No pic as everyone already knows what they look like and Fordman already had one in the background of his shot!

The 2000gt looks good because it's such a blatant rip off of the e type, right down to the rims.
Great thread topic, but been done before fellas. http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthr...light=Japanese

The Brumby, I'm into AWD, if only they didn't rust away. Of course they need a few mods too
This image just pulled off the net but many of the right mods in place, I should never have sold the one I had.

For me it would be any of the early RWD celicas, but having owned a few I have a soft spot for the RA40's and one day would love to get ahold of a 1979/80 Toyota mark 1 supra and a mark 2 supra

Datto 240Z, 260Z. I would happily have one even now. They were even nice inside. They go well with a big block Chev put up front too :-)

Also its 4WD not AWD. The Brumby/MY/L Series were 2wd normally, but then you pull a lever to engage 4wd. The system is basically engaging the rear two wheels and has a permanent center diff lock. Some of these vehicles also had a dual range box. Bottom line is there will always be one front and one rear wheel spinning, unlike a crap (for offroad if no CDL equipped) AWD system. Bit of trivia

As for old school jappas, I'd go for the 2000GT or 240Z, good looking and decent technology for the day. They are two of only a handful of jappas prior to the 90s that deserve recognition. Plus ********* into drift and wearing their pants halfway down their ***** aren't attracted to them. Last edited by smoo; 19-01-2011 at 06:49 PM. |
