Default XY GT Shed find

So,

Today I was offered an XY GT (not gen) in vermillion fire.
Now The way I see it the only way the value of this car is going is up, which im trying to justify to the missus, this car will be an investment but id really need stretch myself finacially to get a hold of it.

But realistically what could this can be worth in 10-15 years?

I can't help but feel that this will be a moment ill look back on in years to come either with sorrow that I didn't grab it or with regret because i did and tore myself to bits on the money front.

Really wishing that this opportunity came up a year ago when to be frank i was loaded and could have got it EASILY.

the other option is I dont spose anyone wants to join me in this investment lol

Just had to vent a little

So it's not a genuine GT? A replica or missing tags? Either way I can't see it ever really increasing in value in a big way

What kind of condition is it in? A replica will always be a replica, though they seem to follow in the shadows of the real deals as they rise and fall

Chuck the money in shares if you want an investment. Or term deposits, they don't rust or get stolen.

i would consider 50 a reasonable price. i find it hard to price but , given what has happened to aussie muscle over the last 5 years , we all have the stories of how we should have kept our old cars coz if we sold em 3 years ago we could have retired (nearly) . I personally think the boom is over. next thing fetching good money will be xd esp 351 manual falcons. as for the xy ya wanna buy , i think it is worth now whatever it will be worth in 10-15 years.

ok, flame away fellas.

Really depends how much they want for it. As mentioned it will be valued at a fairly constant proportion of the real thing. Who knows what will happen in 10 to 15 years? I still remember the cover on Wheels magazine back in 1980 with a guy sitting next to his Ph3 in the shed with a shotgun, and stating how much the then $20,000 car would be worth in the future. Should have taken more notice, but $20,000 was a lot of money then.
The condition and being a replica sounds like it is a usable car to enjoy, which you must consider before thinking about whether it would be a good investment. Its up to you really.

Yeah, the funny thing about this, my old man used to tell me the same thing when I was a kid. Him and his old man chopped a couple up with an AXE just to get them in the trailer and down the tip.

kinda fmc351... I prolly a bit younger than your old man. We would srip the parts off matching number ss toranas and slap the rubber rod (v8) from it into old 6 cylinder lh torana with lx headlights n sell the ss for 500 bucks coz we bought it for 1000 and that meant we got our v8 4 speed conversion on our car for 500 bucks. a bargain indeed, why we just didnt keep the ss is beyond me but hey its what we did. hk gts 6 cylinder monaros were 2K for a sweet as one............

Sorry OP, way off topic ....
Ummm , I myself would not go halvies in a car . ever

It's a replica, plain and simple. No different from any other replica out there. Will the value of the car go up in 10 - 15 years? I'd have to say no.

If it was genuine then i'd say it could be a good investment, but it's not.
If you're going to be financially pushed if you were to purchase this than it's a no brainer.

The XY GT replica I looked at as a first car in 1994 was on sale at $4000 with single rail 4sp and a stock 351. It had the shaker and everything else GT and was a tidy car.

So if replica's dont go up in value, where can I find a $4000 one today?

Depends on how authentic the replica is:

Original 4V Motor as per the GT
Close ratio steering box
Original dash, steering wheel, shaker, trim, seats and so on
Original doors and panels
Centre console, glovebox
Big gas tank and fuel cap
Top Loader (or FMX)
9" with 3.25 or 3.5
Windscreen, windows, remote drivers rear-view
Super Fringe Radio, 8 track, rectangle base antennae
Original GT rims (or even globes)

I know most parts can be had as reproductions, but it may be worth more to a collector as spare parts for when the genuine article need repairs

you're mad - wait another coupla years when no one can afford to run em then you can pick up a bargain and push it round ya back yard

50k is way too much for a rep - have a proper look around - gen gt's letting go for that - if you could get it for say 20-30k then maybe, I cant see values rising back up for anything other than the elite with certain nostalgic history...

Driven once in ten years

One notch below mint? Hmmmm...has it been properly cared for in that 10 year period. I would ask a lot more questions personally

Is putting yourself under financial strain for a GT replica worth it? Especially when you are unclear on it's condition and work that is required?

I dont think thats what anyone is saying though.

If youre bing offered a few 100 grand for a Genuine Ph 3 good luck to you, but the buyer IMO has rocks in his head. There will come a point where the price increases arent sustainable, and buyers will collect something else instead. Replicas cost big bickies now, and theres always a chance that wont stop right now. But Id say given the speed of the rise in price of such replicas (and the genuine thing) over the last 10-20yrs, the price increases from now on will more likely be marginal increases. But, you never know. Surely people will come to their senses sooner or later.

What planet are you on?? Good genuine ones are 100k and more for good condition or good combos..

If the guy ends up asking around the 50k mark for it, consider that you can buy my good condition Genuine S.A. XYGT for 50k..

Replica vs Genuine at the same price should be a no brainer.

Id say faker prices have topped out.. Theres tunns of em about in varying forms and quality..
A good replica with all genuine GT stuff will be the exception to this, but they are few and far between.
Most of the replicars I see popping up, and the made to order ones the professional shops are now building are full of repo junk and are not worth near that..
The repo stuff makes them easily spotted as fakers.
