Default How does car engine get factory installed in car

How does Ford install the falcon engine into a car on the assembly line? Is the engine pre-bolted onto the K-frame/steering/front suspension assembly, then the car body lowered onto it?

Thats basically it i think. The whole front suspension, engine and transmission go in from underneath as one unit.

so is the quickest way to do an engine swap getting the whole front suspension/engine/transmission out of the donor car, wheeling it over to another car and then hoisting the car body down onto it? Why do people then use an engine crane?

Engine cranes are cheaper than vehicle hoists.

yeah, thats how the falcon/territory and most cars are done, I think the new commodore has removable front section of the body that goes on after the motor. But most just come up from beneath

To remove the engine out of a B series Falcon, especially a V8, they put the car up on a hoist and lower the hole engine assembly down, have seen it done once at a Ford dealer.

Would hate to try and use an engine crane on a B series if F series Falcon, as there is no room, the engine is not designed and was never meant to come out the top of the engine bay unlike the older X series Falcons.

i pull the engine out from the engine bay on the taxis. unbolt the trans, unbolt a/c and p/s pump remove radiator, undo harness from trans and computer, undo fuel lines and exhaust and its pretty much ready to come out. should take 2.5 hours max with an engine crane. all you will need is to have someone hold the bonnet back while you pull the engine out.

both motors can "easily" come out either way, top or bottom, just depends on available equipment, and working hands as to which way you decide to do it
