Default Scrap The Overtime Boys !!!!!

. THE FEDERAL BUDGET, has thrown a dagger right into the heart of working families , notice the magic figure of $150k combined family income capped for 4 years , in the looking glass as the cutoff point for health care rebates , and i guess other entitlements too . the budget is clearly redistributing the wealth of the middle class onto the poor , and leaving the true wealthy alone.
in sydneys west , combined incomes of working indebted families are roughly 150k , that is a male full time around $85-90k and a female full time 50- 55k .
this will have people watching there income to keep it under 150k , rather than do some extra work , to try and benifit .
those with higher mortgages for example in the 300- 700k debt bracket , will suffer big time as 2nd jobs etc etc overtime will no longer be viable .
THIS IS MY OPINION . I COULD BE WRONG , BUT , Thats what the papers are telling us today , ontop of this we have price rises, inflation, interest rates threatening to go up, extra taxes and levies , all combined with a we'll punish you if you try earning more to keep up with inflationery pressures .
RANT OFF .

Average full-time income in Australia is just over $60,000 (not everyone works in the mines), and a great number of families will not have two full-time workers.

So at $150,000, you're above average - Why do you need support?

Sure, you might be hurting with the repayments on the 5 bedroom bogan McMansion, the new Falcon (x2) and the boat, but you're not in need of government support like actual poor people

typical family of 4 week , groceries $330, petrol $170 elect $60 , mort estimate $500+ car regos and insurance $70 house bills $80, clothes $20, schools $60, health ins $50 + health treatment $50, dental $20, pets $10, holidays $80 .
thats $1500 pw net , before saving for car replacements every 8 or so years X2 .
thats a guess at mortgage repayments , i guess some are paying more .
i'm trying to estimate pretty much essential costs . i've left out phone and internet costs , even though these are essential s for work and eductation today .
on less , when the av cost of houses is around 550k , and you need 2 cars to travel over 50kms eachway to work per day, x2 . then you are either getting assistance from mum and dad , or your better than everyone else with your cash . this doesnt include private schooling . . and please . dont think i'm crying , i'm trying to be conservative . my age and employment put me in a better position than as i'm describing here, but i'm talking about people in general in sydneys west . i havent included personal credit card debts . thats just the essentials.

Mate, if those are the essentials, you've got nothing to complain about. Most working people can't dream of buying a $550k house or saving for replacement cars when they're an early childhood worker or work in a factory watching a conveyor belt full of Motorcraft widgets for $35,000 a year.

thats my point . soon the 150k couples wont be able to do it either . an artical in todays telegraph says a few years ago to buy a home , you needed a combined income of 150k . today they says its 167k .
how do young people earn this to start out , and then maintain it , when the govt is going to take further off you on a non indexed capped basis .

dont forget , working class families arew living week to week ,, just like everyone else . the difference being , no one bails them out of trouble . they have everything to lose .

But you're arguing for middle class welfare - Maybe people in the $150,000 a year combined income bracket need to stop behaving like they're earning $300,000 a year.

That said, my wife and I have a combined income of well over $150,000 and we're the kind of socialists you're all worried about - So my opinion has no more value than yours.

what i'm saying is . 150k is a base . your not rich , and there is no point earning 200 k you lose too much . so you may as well satay under 150k , and pay your home off over 30 years , struggle with replacing furniture and carpets as they age , because earning more will penalise you , unless you earn more than 200k

i realise you are not really crying about it - my post was a light hearted dig in reference to another thread

however i would still love the problem of $150,000, although i do realise that alot of people would love my wife's and my combined income - the fact is though, no matter what your income you base your budget around it. we do not base our budget around $60,000 and you obviously do not base yours on $100,000. we all spend close to what we have so any change in it can be detrimental to your lifestyle

Maybe less caviar gtfpv? We are a family of 4 and I am spewing if I spend more than $200 per week on groceries...and we are still buying nappies and eat very well.

I see your point, you have to work out your income and how best to suit it to the current laws with taxing and any benefits.

our 1 weekly trolley , which is about 50% other items over food , is roughly $300 thats just 1 trolley , then we get other stuff like meat from the butchers . . we often laugh when the current affair shows do typical weekly shopping grocery shops at $90 a trolley , when you can fit $400 into one trolley if you try . we've asked the checkout chicks if the average trolley coming through is over 300 , the answer was , in most cases yes .
i also spend about 50$ on takaway , $40 at coffee shops , on top of the grocery bill . but they arte not essential items , however , i'm not the only one in gloria jeans or the takaway shop when we order .ohh and the kis sports . over 2k per year . i wont go into out hobbies . but you can see . thiumgs that every one does daily , costs . a lot , and easily justifies 150k .

Scrap all middle class welfare, refunds, rebates, family payments, family tax concessions. negative gearing, family trusts etc. Easy.

All these crying poor on 100k that need all these middle class welfare handouts, pioneered and entrenched by Howard, and now continued by Labor, should be made to line up in front of Centrelink to get their payments, not receive them in their bank account. All these types of welfare should be shameful. The indoctrination of it being okay to be on welfare and in receipt of government handouts makes me want to puke.

Heard Swan (Treasurer) asked about this on 3AW this morning.
His reply... "Will only affect around 40,000 families, so no big deal"
Who's he bloody kidding???
In reality there are around 1,030,000 familes with combined incomes of over 150k (this was verified by Joe Hockey)
Regardless of what people here are saying, 150k a year for a professional couple (or blue-collar couple doing regular overtime) is far from being wealthy!

Is that less than you saved from the tax cuts in the previous budget?
The changing of the thresholds upwards...?
Those things made a big difference to me.

All the handouts do are help keep the air in the big unsustainable growth bubble and fuel inflation. The bubble will eventually go bang...

i didnt save much at all in the previous budget , i havent ever been eligible for any family assistance , baby bonus , child care rebates etc etc , the only rebate i have ever gotten is the %30 healthcare rebate , which is now in jeapordy, i got one one off govt handout , last year for the 1st time in my life , which i thought was utterly disgracefull . - free money .
other things included in the $80 i just lost were things we all just lost , like flood levy , and carbon tax , we all lost that .

Generally I agree, but there are some instances were it all helps.

My wife is on $55k, as I am a full time student I get some help as child care is bloody unreal, but there are sometimes when I look at some of the benefits we get because I am studying and I wonder what I did to deserve it.

Ive worked our live style around our income, but sometimes I do actually wonder why we get so much....and we are on less than half of what we are talking about above, with 2 kids...so yeah..its not a prefect system thats for sure.

Once I am working then ill cut what we get (although it might happen automatically), but I am very grateful for what we get, otherwise Id be working while doing uni full time which defeats the purpose, and I am not doing an Arts degree so I dont have much spare time.

I have a mate in WA working on a rig, getting paid some crazy amount of money and he hasnt been there long, complaining about how much he gets taxed...unreal, id swap in a heartbeat with him.

Perhaps my opinion will change once I am in that situation, but honestly I think some people forget how lucky we are to get what we have and live where we do.

Can you claim anger management courses? ROFLMAO

I've paid 40k in tax over the past two years, all the while getting nothing back from the government. That is how it should be.

For others...

As for child care and the like, give me a break, you spit em out you pay for them. Government assistance to study as an adult, again, give me a break. You should pay for your choices. I don't blame anyone for claiming what they are entitled, but these things should never be subsidised by government.

This is how it should be...

If the system worked as it should. The sick, elderly etc. would be looked after like gold and we would have a first class education system and support system for those genuinely in need. The only reason we don't is because of ths political pandering to the middle class family. This is what drives me insane, not paying the tax I am required to.

EDIT - The thing that is driving me towards apoplectic rage is things like millions for the religious indoctrination in the budget. And while you are at it cut all the tax deductions for churches. Let the god botherers pay their own way as they go around spewing their lies and propaganda while on the government teet.

agree totally - my wife and i do not have kids (basically we cannot afford them) and at times, it seems we get penalised for not having any - it is a bit annoying
