Default Whens the new Camry (HSV killer) supposed to come out?

I remember reading awhile back about the new Camry thats supposed to come out to rival HSV and FPV from Toyota's Aussie performance division. (TRD?)
Supercharged V6 Engine with 180kW or something, 0-100 in sub 7 secs or something and 18" wheels standard.

Anybody got any new info on this thing?

I dont think it will be - next gen Camry is out next year and will be 4 cylinder only.

Avalon's renamed replacement will be a slightly larger car and be the only model to offer the v6 - probably the same unit from the Kluger - 172kw, 328NM, 3.3L, although I hear they also have a 3.5L unit in the wings as well.

Toyota has been playing tonka trucks with their production line as well for a third model - Kluger may soon be locally produced - and would probably make sense as it's chassis is a derivative of the widebody Camry I believe.

Dont mean to be rude here but how could a sub 7sec car 0-100 (which would really mean only just under 7secs) possibly be considered a rival to an FPV or HSV. The HSV GTO has gone into the high 4 sec bracket before.

That Camry does look good but I would find it hard to believe that anyone would seriously consider that as an alternative to a FPV or HSV.

Having said that, I can see it goin against the XR6 and SV6 though.

I was thinking the same thing...Toyota dont really have a muscle car...they have boring reliable cars and who wants a reliable car! :

Toyota seems to think so.
I reckon they mean as an overall package. (handling, brakes, features, etc)

Toyota make very good cars, if they would make a spirited car with style and performance like a XR8 or an SS it would sell very well..
I think in the current climate we wont see this happen..
All we will see is the Toyota Hybrid Sports Car "Priapus"

Just wait till the Supra re-emerges in 2007!

If they can do a high 4second 0-100 then they have done well to be on par, but there is nothing like the sound of a V8, ford or holden.

Last time I checked:
Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R, 0-100 in 4.7 secs
Toyota MkIV Supra TT, 0-100 in 5.6 secs

Both look and sound better than any Holden or Ford V8. :nutsycuck

Btw, new R35 Skyline will be either in TT V6 or V8. (for the American market)

Since when are they reviving the Supra? Anyways thats awesome news! Maybe bring back the Soarer too. I know they have the newish Lexus SC300 or whateva its is (that still around?) but I mean the older style coupe. They had a V8 or TT option. Those things haul ****.

I heard the R35 is N/A V8 only ... the TT was dropped due to emmission laws ... hence why the 350Z never came out from factory with the option of forced induction.

Mind you a lot of aftermarket places have added the turbos later on ... but from factory ... it's all N/A out of Japan now for Nissan.

Toyota, benchmark for quality, realiability and boredom. Not one of their products raises my eye lid.

I think it would be great if they released something that did excite. Like a lexus IS200 with a V8 or turbo six. Bring back the Soarer/Supra!!

You can't seriously compare aussie performance cars to a Skyline or Supra.

I was watching something on the TV about the new skyline. Apparently they American version is the N/A v8, due to their emission laws. But pretty much everywhere else, they are planning on using the v6 TT.

Bring back the RB26DETT!!!! :evilking:

Because we only get there old wrecker jobs people forget the last GTRs retailed in Japan for around $300k. For that money I'll have Ford GT that would not only tromp them but be a truely special car rather then a factory hotroded bread & butter car.

sorry to say but i dont think much on this world can compete with a R34 GT-R Skyline, ive been a ford boy all my life but still those things deserve big respect. But still i wish ford would come out with a twin turbo monster or at least a supercharged XR8

Um... the 2002 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V-SpecII N1, the fastest Skyline ever made, 100 of which were produced, retailed in Japan for ¥14,000,000.00, which is AU $161,397.16.

The regular R34 GT-R was around ¥7,000,000.00, which is $80,691.10 Aussie. Don't know where you got $300k from....

Well then it's obvious to see how such a car could be compared to a domestic aussie. :

Eve better if you get free transport and the government opts to waive GST, customs duty, LCT, compliance requirements....

Although it would be worth every cent. Damn, promised to buy my housemate one after i win the $19mio on sat nite...
