Hey guys what amperage wire do i need to use to wire an ammeter in my mk2 escort ?

Um...something more than the max of your alternator?

Seriously, tho....Ammeters are very 1950's.
Safer to go Voltmeter which has much much lower current flowing thru it, as they are part of the charging circuit.
You need to keep that smoke inside the wire and not let it out with resulting char-grill effect.
I suspect every aftermarket voltmeter has a fitting guide inside the box. Otherwise, your local sparky or restorers magazine can give you a wiring diagram. e.g. Practical Classics

Correction....Ampmeter part of charging circuit.
Voltmeter monitors what is going on.
