Default Celica/Supra Gear box to Escort 2ltr

Im doing up a Escort PVan, have got a 2 ltr motor, but looking at a Celica or Supra 5 speed box to put behind it.

I know that you need an adaptor of some sort, but not sure where i can get one??

Im sure there are others that have done this...

Will a Supra box fit in the tunnel of an escort, or would i be better off going with the Celica box?

IIRC, I think it depends if your escort has the manual tunnel or the auto tunnel; Auto was a bit bigger.

Dont waste your time, fit a T9 gearbox much easy and better suited as the first 4 speeds as the same as the escort, same bellhousing, clutch tailshaft, have alook at the other posts on fitting 5 speed

It's all a matter of opinion which is the better - yes, the T9 bolts straight in but you are stuck with the same intermediate gears. I hate the "duh, where did all the power go have I missed a cog" feeling every time you change to 2nd.

The Toy boxes I hate to say have near perfect ratios; but do try to get one of the wide ratio version if you get a steel case (3.28 or 3.58 1st)). With the Supra you get a lighter stronger box albeit a bit bigger - nothing a couple of hits with a hammer won't fix as far as fitting it in the tunnel.

Jeff Dellow Automotive if you're in Sydney, or Castlemaine Rod Shop for the Vics, will get you all the parts you need.

Fair comment T3, I'm keeping my RS project as a Ford box, more for the fact that it is closer to orginial

There's a lot to be said for originality; especially if the project is for show purposes or future investment rather than "driving" as such.

I have both an RS2000 and Capri GT3000 that run Supra boxes (the originals are still in the shed). That's because I prefer to drive them as often as I can and I have no desire or intention to ever sell them. So their "market value" means nothing to me. Guess I'm a very lucky bugger in that regard.

That's the same reason they both run straight LPG - they love it and perform very well and give me so much joy in the driving - I love "putting it to" the young'ns with their FWD ricers. LOL.

It wont at all be for show. Im the one that organises the show not enters it haha .

It will be (hopefully) my daily drive, so i obviously want what is going to be the best to drive with.

Yes T3man, you are a very lucky bugger haha !

Ive just found a Celica 5 speed, with the adaptor for the 2ltr for $500... Decisions, Decisions... Thanks so much for your help guys, bought up a lot of new ideas!

If you would like to keep it more original, get in contact with:
http://classicescortparts.com.au/
They are now selling complete boxes with different 1st gearing. From memory about $1500.
I have bought stuff off these guys and they are great to deal with.
