There's also the possibility of Hyundai using their 5L V8 down the track too. Their 5L V8 = 320kW/510Nm. Apparently they have supercharged their old 4.6L V8 too and used it in a demo car and it produced 340kW.

I'd say those numbers will be the same as we will get in Australia.

I like it, its a big step away from you see them produce, even better if it gets a V8. Might upset the local establishments even.

Ford better watch out, Hyundai now have Genesis and Genesis coupe, they're the Korean equivalent of Falcon and Mustang on one platform.
On top of the Korean version of Ecoboost 2.0 and 3,8 DI V6, they have the Tau 5.0 V8 producing 320 Kw and 510 nm......sounds familiar hey.

Just saying, unless Ford gets going, Hyundai may see a market for the large car and coupe in Australia and take it...

Well we need SOMETHING to happen with V8 Supercar. If they race those I might get up early in October to watch Bathurst again. On second thoughts, maybe not.

The Genesis coupe has been a big hit in America for years. Australia is only just going to get it next year, and it's about time.

320kW, RWD, 6 speed manual, 1500kg coupe = giddy up.

Not a chance at being 70k, it would be too hard for them to sell at that price.

Prices in the US are 22k up to 29k for the V6 R spec

The Falcon sized genesis sedan has the 5.0 V8 available in high series and starts around US$45,000

$70k will be too much. No idea how Nissan get away with charging that amount for a 370Z.

I would say mid $40's for the 2L turbo, and low $50's maybe for the V6. But who knows.

As said above, the base Genesis is the states costs $22k with the 2L turbo, right up to $31k for the V6 track edition. The 2L turbo weighs 1494kgs for the 6 speed manual, and the V6 weighs 1537kgs for the 6 speed manual.

Just as an example, the Nissan 370Z in America starts at $32k and goes right up to $42k.

What was the Tiburon sold at when it was new? They where nice looking cars, a bit slow though and rough engine.

Maybe it'll come in at a similar price point.

Wow! They've come a long way haven't they...
I remember the first adverts for these new fangled litle cheap cars coming from Korea that I saw in an American science magazine called "OMNI" that I used to subscribe to back in the eighties. It had a picture of two houses, one with two Hyundai hatchbacks in the driveway with a price above each car of $4500, and next door was a typical large Yank car with a price above it of $11,000...it said something like "For less than the price of one large sedan, you can have one car got you and one for the wife".
It also told you the correct pronunciation of the name..."Hyundai - Rhymes with Sunday". However, from the start here in Australia they said it as "Hi-yun-di", but eventually they started saying it properly.

That's a damn nice looking coupe...

What ever they cost in the states I'd say triple it and add a bit for us...so yeah I'd think not for off $70K.

Not sure if anyone has ever noticed but cars a cheap in the US and an effing rip off in the "lucky country".

Check out US pricing for mustangs, comaros or even corvettes and you will cry.

Depends what the ride/handling and steering are like.

If its like all the other Hyundai products they will be crap to drive. But being RWD may make it different in that regard, time will tell. Looks ok, better than the previous model, but not really liking Hyundais new grilles.

Hyundai have other cars they sell in both countries. Perhaps if we compare the price of an i30 in the US to an i30 in Oz we'd could apply the same multiplier?

Overall shape is nice, looks quite racy, although the front-ends detail may take getting used to. Nice package, but price will make or break it.

As always, competition improves the breed so this is a positive, only because we know Ford won't ignore this sector.

It's good though that we see such opposition...who else remembers the bad old days of heavily (and overly) proteted Aussie cars when you were lucky to get an AM/FM radio cassette as a standard feature and air con cost you $2000+ extra?
The makers here ddn't have to do any better, because they were selling to a captive audience who didn't know any better. In the early seventies when my paresnt started buying Mazdas (a Capella in 1971, a top of the line 929 in '74), al our neighbours had Falcons, Valiants, or Holdens. The jeweller next door had a Vacationer wagon, which had a cloth interior...and air con, because he was well off...but only a single speaker radio and wind up windows. The 929 wagon was steets ahead in equipment and comfort.

We would't have half the equipment as standard we see now in Australian cars if the foreign ones weren't flooding the market with cars fitted standard with all those goodies...
