Default Jaguar E-Type Recast

JAGUAR is going gangbusters under its new owner, Indian giant Tata Motors, with a revitalised model range and a healthy balance sheet. But there's one thing missing from this line-up and, arguably, it's the British brand's most famous model.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the E-Type was famously described by Enzo Ferrari as ''the most beautiful car ever made''.

An icon of 1960s motoring, it came with a in-line six or V12 power and convertible or coupe body styles, with the coupe being the most prized today.

With Jaguar now profitable, many loyalists believe there's no time like the present for a modern iteration of the E-Type. Until such time, however, perhaps this modern interpretation will suffice.

Meet the Lyonheart K, a ''truly British luxury sports car'', which costs a cool $610,000 and takes 18 months to build.

The car is entirely hand-built in Coventry, Britain, with painstaking attention to detail.

The aluminium engine is revealed by opening the traditional, front-hinged clamshell bonnet. The company's design philosophy is simple: use only genuine materials, including carbon fibre, leather, veneer, polished stainless steel, brushed aluminium and chromed metal.

It is powered by a 5.0-litre supercharged V8, which sends a supercar-like 410kW of power and 680Nm of torque to the rear wheels. Carbon-fibre panels and an aluminium chassis help to keep kerb weight less than 1600 kilograms.

It accelerates from 0-100km/h in less than four seconds on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 300km/h, the company says.

That is an absolutely timeless design. And neck breaker at the same time.

It would cause accidents if put in to production!

Stunning car

This one is better. Straight 6 ftw! Is almost 600kg lighter too, keep your supercharged v8.

One of the older classic cars I would love to own one day.

The new one looks like a very well executed modern version of the original

Man.. come retirement there will be some nice cars to buy on the used car yards...

Only problem will be working out where to jam the batteries after the 'engine' conversion....

This is more the way to go, built a whole brand new E Type from NOS.
One of these have always been my dream car ever since I was a little bloke and got a Corgi model with opening doors and that gorgeous bonnet to reveal a V12 underneath.
One day.

Original motor bored out 4.7, puts out ~230kw. While down on power, it's light weight would make it so much more fun in the twisties.

Its obviously the 5 litre supercharged Jaguar V8 out of the XKRS. A Jag in a Jag (tribute anyway).

To Jaguar the E Type is like the PhIII GTHO is to Ford, how do you do a modern version of it and not taint the original, or even live up to the publics expectations of it.

Yeah, but they have been evolving the same car though. They haven't stopped production of the 911 and then tried to re-create it 40 years later.

Yeah so sluggish it won Le Mans and numerous other sports car races . You know in 1954 they just could not coax more than 170 M.P.H. out of it , god what a slug .

The early 3.8 litre was only good for about 150mph and compared to the later 5.3 V12 it was

Boxster. Porsche stopped making a two seat roadster decades ago. Then went all retro with the boxster. The Boxster is Porsches most successful car, the car that saved the company actually.

Boxster isn't a recreation of a 550 though, its a mid engined flat 6 thats considerably heavier and more luxuriously equipped.

550 was a rear engined boxer 4, very lightweight and stripped out.

Both 2 seat roadsters but not exactly peas in a pod.

It did save the company though, although Cayenne made it mega profitable.
