why would you say "Supposedly Accurate" GPS

all they do is calculate your distance traveled over time
it will be more accurate than your car's speedo as long as it has a signal from more than 1 satellite, 3 or more satellites will give a very accurate speed down to 0.1kph

Best to test on those 5km long speedo test thingys on the freeway. All other factors being correct (tyre pressure, tyre wear, standard wheels etc) your odometer should read 5100m with 2% error, 5000m without. My toyota is always around 5100m but has non-standard tyres.

are you referring to your analogue speedo or your digital speedo?

That does test your odometer, but not your speedometer.

They are inter-related:
Speed = Distance/Time so if the distance is in error, so will speed.

Billy, true, but no. The speedo has an electronically induced error.

GlenW, the speed replaces the odometer readout when the engine is running.

Ahh OK, makes complete sense that odometer readings would not be altered

i have checked my speedo with a few different gps devices and the digital speedo is spot on, with the analogue one reading a couple of km faster. (digital speedo 100, analogue speedo 102). i've been past a few of those road markers and over 5 km, my odometer is only about 4.9km, so it seems to be saying my car is out.

i'm more inclined to think the markers aren't 100% accurate.

Ever since I fitted the 19's, the digital speedo (and the analogue one too) have been on the dot when compared to multiple GPS devices; 60 is 60, 100 is 100 (and everything in between).

I found that my Fg is the same regards the Odo, ie. 2% under.
