My local dealer told me today that BHP has ordered 2500 Ford Rangers for some of their Australian mines. Has anyone heard of this?
Will we see a big surge in Ranger sales? Hilux is almost the biggest selling car in Australia and is by far the biggest seller in Qld, WA and NT. The BHP order will not only be a good sales boost but also be a big reputation builder. |

Hope it's true. Is it also true that where Toyota held an advantage was servicing in the remote areas. If this is the case maybe Ford has done some homework here as well because the Ranger itself is superior to a Hilux.

In a nearby town, VW are setting up a service centre for Amaroks purely for the mines. |

yeah, heard the same thing. My father went out to buy a new Ranger, and was told there is quite a while wait till he would be able to get one. good for commercial market, not so good for private buyers. Dad is now looking elsewhere....

Let's hope the servicing and after sales support can keep up better than supply can.

If this gets their foot in the door, i dont think every BHP order will be 2500 Rangers at once every time, so supply will get alot more manageable. It may also allow FoA a higher priority of supply and benefit private sales with faster delivery dates. |

They are a sweet looking vehicle that's for sure, seen a few around lately, I'd much rather one of those than a Hilux/Navara for the simple fact the rangers look like a small and very tough pick up

I doubt the sales would even show up on VFACTS as they would completely bypass the dealers and wont even be registered.

Not registered? Plenty of cars used in the mines need to go on the road aswell. Perhaps not all, but I would say a major chunk of them.
I dont recall seeing any cars/utes used that didnt have rego.

BHP has a round 2,500 vehicles, Ford has a shot at getting a huge chunk of that business, but BHP also has a grandfather clause that allows 4 star Hilux to continue as an approved supplier. |

im led to believe its coming to councils and such ....so at the moment 2 vehicles amorok and ranger will be the choice until someone else gets up to standard . i am pretty dam sure the cruiser ute would be impossible to make the rating , interesting times ahead for 4wd lovers ....but will see ! individual sites i believe ( as ours did ) fought hard , but bhp make the rules ...we will test the buggers thats for sure ..

The version I heard, some weeks back was it was Thiess Services, who operate mine support for BHP & others. And the number I heard was just a tad over 2500.

The late delivery of EcoBoost, EcoLPI, Diesel Territory, non delievery of V8 falcon and or diesel Falcon/Falcon ute. I know that diesel Falcon want a project, but why not? Rant over. Ranger is kicking goals all over and good on it, it's a great car. Large imposing road pressence too. However it's important to get the supply lines open and make hay while the sun shines. If the rumours of HiLux with 5 star rating, V6 Amarok next year are true, life will get harder.

I'm surprised they didn't want to sell them in the USA because Diesel Power magazine has been obsessing over it in their news section.
