That's why the mines used to have Landcruiser station wagon,...

oh oh the old troop carrier where you sit sideways in the back...maybe a new option?

We tested legroom headroom and width both with tape measures and people in Hilux, Amarok and Ranger as we use dual cabs as training vehicles. Amarok and Hilux are similar but Amarok is slightly more leg room and Ranger kills them both handsdown in everyway.

That's a huge issue in a lot of twin cab fourbies...the rear seat seems to be an afterthought...the new VW Amarok seems to be a lot better thought out from the owners out here I've talked to.

maybe the BHP deal isn't a low profit sale? :P

Is this the same for the previous Ranger / BT50 are they built in the same Factory in Thailand or is it completely different?

Another question is if Ford Australia designed the T5 Ranger when should we expect to see the Everest?

Mazda designed the chassis actually.

We have a combination of patrol wagons, prados, dual cab hiluxs and a couple 100 series cruisers, the boss has just got a new ranger but havnt asked if its just a trial or if there is more coming, we have about 50 hiluxs and now the ranger so it might be an aus wide mine site thing, will see how they hold up, by 100,000km they are basically throw away items, the patrols are all rentals but the rantal company rents them to joe blow for the first 80,000 then we get them to finish them off, there not keen on giving us brand new patrols to run around a mine site on haul roads covered in salt and potholes half a meter deep

The previous Rangers were designed and engineered elsewhere, and built in South Africa?

The previous generation of ranger and BT-50 was designed by Mazda with only minor design work by Ford. The main manufacturing facility was the Auto Alliance Thailand plant where the new generation of Rangers and BT-50 are being made. South Africa was making Rangers But I think they may have been CKD or at least partially.

The new generation as already indicated, has been designed and engineered by Ford with Mazda doing the chassis. The design centre with responsibility was here in Australia, where up to 600 engineers were employed in the project. These were primiarily working with Ford, but also with Mazda as well.

The test program had engineering and testing being undertaken here, the USA, Africa, the Middle East and Europe. No vehicle engineered by Ford anywhere had such a diverse test regime and over such varied terrain.

A bloke I know who worked on the project said it was the first time in Ford Engineering history anywhere where they were permitted to buy camping gear. The Australian test program meant that the engineers were so far away from civilisation, they had no choice but to camp out.

yep..people in the know are aware that ford built the ranger so that it was bassically bigger better and tougher in almost everyway then all the competitors.
Ford and mazda both recently handed over ______ millions to upgrade the thai plant that builds their rangers an bt50s.
