iPhone 5 Announced

So the iPhone 5 was announced this morning and if I'm perfectly honest I think Apple has dropped the ball. The Galaxy SIII & One XL to me still appear to be better phones (though their resolution isn't quite as high as the iPhones yet).

No doubt there will be truckloads of people lining up to buy one, but once you put the back up on it from your old 4/4S then it'll look & feel exactly the same as your old phone and I think the excitement of a new phone would be short lived.

Definately no excitement from me here but then Apple lost me as a customer in 2010 with the iPhone 4 I had and got bored with!

Looks like the Nokia Lumia 920 is going to take some of Apple's business...

I hate the fact i5 is bigger overall!!! i thought the screen size was perfect...

That's the spirit. I'm a WP7 early adopter and have been on board since day one. Great product and I can't wait for RTM on WP8. Also looking forward to getting my hands on a W8 surface.

It is so unimportant that everyone feels they need to make posts on a Ford forum about it?

If it was not for Apple and the iPhone we would all still be stuffing about with symbion and all the "nokia wannabes".

Also looking at my next phone to go WP8.

This phone is meh, has been since Apple dripfed it technology since day dot that other phones already had.

Oooo look... Nfc and a panoramic camera... Groundbreaking! Dont forget the $35 adapter to use it with every single other apple device....

It is a skill developed from lots of practice judging cars they have not driven and places they have not been.......

post-Steve, Apple are looking decidedly uninspired. the ipod nano looks like a Nokia Lumia, the ipod touch looks dated and a bit cheap, and the iphone 5 lacks much of the new tech being offered by other phone manufacturers.

No its in response to a suite of tech features and software upgrades touted as a new model, which are now in the market against WP7 and soon WP8 based handsets and operating systems.

As an early WP7 adopter (Mozart and Nokia Lumia) and an iPhone 4S user I cannot see why you would upgrade to the iPhone 5 from a 4 or 4S, and can see how WP which is already superior in my view will simply stretch the gap with WP8. Not to mention Android based phones also advancing.

Just my 2 cents worth............

Actually NO NFC.......it didnt make it into the iPhone 5

They are falling behind, its merely a catch up to the The Galaxy SIII & One XL which have been out for awhile now.

either that, or someone else would have done it.
just because apple 'did it first' (which is debatable in itself) doesn't mean someone else wouldn't have done it 12 months later.

Be happy with something that is already behind in technology before its even released, and also enjoy paying more money again for accessories that you have that aren't compatible anymore.

Like how Apple dictates **** to you?

By all means go for the one you like. I just feel like the other brand do not feel like a quality design, material wise. Plastic & Glass. The iphone is aluminium, glass and feels better in my hand. I played with the S3 its not a phone its a brick. Way to big. The HTC lol I was bored just looking at the home screen.

Wonder if they've fixed the iphone's main flaw, that if you drop them from anything over 10cm they shatter... Would be a good start.

I know I'll just be labelled a sheep but I actually quite like it.

I love the simplicity and ease of use of my iPhone 4. I like the way the icons look, the OS, the way you navigate.

Personally I was concerned they'd try and be too revolutionary and balls it up. So the fact that it has only received minor (some important behind the scenes) tweeks makes me quite happy.

I've dropped mine more times that I can remember. I even managed to kick it half way across the garage once. My family has owned around 10 of the things. I actually have 2 of the original Iphones here. The 3 yo uses it as a toy. Still works. Probably lucky.

And no, I don't have a case on mine.

My friend broke her Samsung the day she bought it sticking it in her pocket. Probably unlucky.

As for whether the new iphone is any good, time will tell. There is probably not a lot of jaw dropping new tech in mobil devices in the near future, so this was always going to be a an incremental improvement.

I'll probably upgrade my iphone 4 in a few months, it works well with my macbook.

Larger screen, more powerful processor , best display of any phone and extended battery life.......I'll be upgrading from iPhone 4 to 5. These things are tribal I guess..... You buy what suits you and what you like.

How can we judge it? Because it's almost the same as the current model but a bit taller with an extra row of apps on the screen. Sure an improved processor but no specs released on that yet. I'm open minded - I want it to be great (it will sell great regardless) but in terms of what appears to be the extent of the improvements - it leaves you wanting.

I do, however, love seeing all the interest in WP8 - I've moved from Apple to WP7 back when the Mozart was released and now run a Lumia 800 and the 820/920 look brilliant.

Here's my perspective on phones in a language more suited to the forums -
iPhone = Camry/Corolla
Android = Commodore
Windows = Falcon

Person opinion of course!

Each to their own, just many friends have broken the glass on their iphones, most likely due to how they landed.
My SII has survived several throws off a balcony, and also being thrown from the roof of a shopping center at a bobcat.
Probably lucky it didn't break, but solid enough for me to stick with it.
