Hey guys
Just had my 50th Anniversary G6E turbo repaired after someone rear ended us. The job the repairer has done looks fantastic however on the opposite end the car doors and front quarter panels feels rough like sand paper is this overspray or something else they did say they run something over the whole car can't remember what they said now, but do you think this if fixable with a simple polish. Thanks THAXR5 |

Sounds like over spray and it depends how bad it is and the cars colour as to how hard it is to fix
I'd recommend taking it back and pointing it out, it's not the end of the world. It if it's a darker colour you don't want to to do a hand cut or you'll risk swirls etc or worse getting over zellious and rubbing through the clear

Take it back and let them rectify the problem, somebody probably did not check the finished job as this happens at times.

as others have said, purchase some quick detailer and a claybar, normally sold together in a kit, maybe around $29 ??
Claybar the offending area(s) using the quick detailer and repeat if necessary until smooth. If this gives you no joy, take it back to your repairer and ask them to rectify it

Thanks guys
Think I will take it back Monday , think you are right and it is overspray, colour is edge so I hope it comes up okay. I remember the insurance guy telling me it should come back as if it just came out of the factory!!! I am going to hold him to that. Will let you know how I go Cheers |

it may have had a full polish after the repairs,
but in a lot of crash shops the car will sit inside or just outside their door getting overspray on it from other jobs going on around it. im guessing the shop will repolish the front, hopefully they dont leave too many swirls... make sure you pick the car up on a sunny day, and check it over well. when i worked in a crash shop, i'd park my car 50 metres from the workshops' front door, it would still get overspray from small touch ups, and primer etc floating out the door. it was so easy to notice on the windows when heading into the sun.

I had the same thing when mine got repaired after it was reversed into.
Went over the rough area with a clay bar and it came up good as new. If you haven't already got one, go get one and do the whole car with it, the things work wonders

You shouldn't have to buy or do anything, it's their F-up they should fix it. And maybe they might take more care next time.

As XBROO stated you shouldn't have to do anything, if you attempt to rectify it yourself the repairer can wash their hands of it leaving you with a potential issue.
I do not know of any manufacturer or service industry that would honour a warranty after it has been "repaired" by another party. Bill.

the only thing with having them fix up the overspray is,
it will most likely be polished, and then given a quick wax job. then you'll have swirls/webbing etc ? make sure the day you pick it up, it is sunny, this will show up how good or bad their rectification was....

+1 for taking it back, it's their responsibility and not yours.
If you make a mistake with the clay bar, they would not be liable to fix it, and you could end up out of pocket for the repairs.
