Suprise sheep in dip of road!

Was driving along a country road the other day, came over a sharp crest, keeping to the left as normal, and when i could see into the dip, there was at least 200 sheep packed tight blocking the whole road!! and only 30 metres from me! Was a suprise! (Absolutly no where to go!), braked trying not to lock it up, did pretty well, but still had a bit of tyre smoke. Pulled up about 1 metre from the sheep who were just looking at me!

Farmer up the other end pushing them along with his ute and dogs said "How you going mate?" , "yeah good thanks" I said.

There were no stock crossing signs.

Good times.

Be careful out there!! You just never know!!

Saw some other massive skids over crests nearby, and can only imagine similar surprises for drivers!!

Test out your braking a bit too, its nice to know you can safely pull up in a distance you can be confident at when something happens.

Farmers are actually by law meant to have "Stock Ahead" signs on both sides of where they are when on public roads ...... big $$$$ for them if they dont & someone collects part of their stock.

I spose were used to it out here partically when we have had drought for so long, but this is a great warning for those who live in the city.

I got a car v sheep story too.
Op at Exmouth I was driving a Bravo and they got dips in the roads too. It was night and I had 3 passengers. I was doing about 140kph and when I got to the other side of the dip reaching the crest there was about 20 sheep scattered across the road. There was no way I was gonna stop and no way to weave a path through them. One of the passengers in the back yelled "this is gonna hurt" and everyone braced for impact and roll over. My gut reaction was to line a sheep head on so I didnt clip it and roll the Bravo. Just before impact the one sheep I lined up trotted out the way casually and then I had a clear straight path through the rest of them.
We were so lucky.

Bah, sheep are soft (relatively speaking), Kangaroos are hard. I know from experience you can hit 5 sheep with your dad's XB ute and only break a blinker lens ))

my bro inlaw travelling home from sydney to mid north coast nsw on the number 1 highway, got near south west rocks late at night (11pm-ish) and comes over a crest, theres 5 cows on the road, he missed 4 but cleaned up 1, wrote his neat 308 VN Calais off. The farmer who owned them, his insurance is paying for it as he didnt have them under control.

I hit a chicken or some sort of flight-less bird this morning. There was one [bird] on the right curb standing still, and two [bird]s running to the left curb, one chasing the other. The one doing the chasing lept into the air kicking both its feet in a rather amusing way, then landed and decided to run back across the road, meeting my left front wheel.
When I hit the stupid thing I actually laughed, it looked like some sort-of territorial fight, couldn't help but think it was darwinism in action

Never hit anything big like a sheep though, I drive slower when the kangaroos are out.

Saw the aftermath of a horse and car in a 100k zone a few years ago, God what a mess. Driver was taken to Hospital, horse and car were totalled.

No sheep but a Kangaroo jumped into the side of the car when I was travelling 80km/h. Odd that the roo jumped into the drivers door.

I've clipped a roo early one morning in the a partly foggy area ... came across a small bridge in a gully through fog and out into clear air .... to find a roo sitting in the middle of the road ... I swerve one way ... the roo moves the other day ... and then decides to turn and jump the way I swerve .... bastard ... smashed one headlight.

Nearly had a close call with a flock of ducks the other day in the Territory ... I hit the brakes and swerved to the left a bit .... the idiot in the XR6 Falcon that was tailgating me in the rain on a narrow country road decided to overtake me at some stupid speed. Guess what ... he copped 3 of the largish wood ducks at headlight and lower bumper height .... all headlights destroyed and one foglight handing out ... damaged front bar as well.

He pulled over the assess the damage ... I drove past him laughing at him ... serves himself right for driving like an idiot.

Not nice to see the feathers flying though ... but the driver had to suffer the damages ... hope it taught him a lesson.

I had a magpie stuck in my grill once, I hit it from behind doing about 120, he was doing 60 odd i guess. He was stuck, looking around!, I let him out and he flew off!!

He wouldnt have felt acceleration like that before! 60 to 120 in 0 seconds flat! Beat that!!

Was recently driving up winding mountain road in my EL, enjoying the corners, and admiring the rainforest vegetation when after rounding a blind corner I hit what I later found out was a spotted quolle (sp.)! No oportunity to stop before hitting it, I looked in the mirror and saw its tail wagging so pulled over to check it out in case it could be salvaged. Was just nerves as its head was as flat as a pankake!! Dragged it off the road and continued on...with a slight feeling of guilt. Not only had I never seen a spotted quolle before, but I took it out on the first encounter. Wouldn't have been worried if it was a Sheep, Kangaroo, Cat etc........

Try hitting a koala! Accidently hit one last week, i rounded a bend on my way home from work to see the car in front serve to the right. A koala was in the middle of the lane, the only safe thing for me to do was to swerve into the right lane as well (there were no cars, it was safe, trust me!), unfortunately he panicked and ran in front of me.

I pulled over to see it coughing up blood and and rolling around slowly dying. God, Im glad i wasnt speeding or in the wrong, coz i felt bad enough as it was! Maybe il make a donation to a koala fund to help ease my mind!

Carlos Sainz hit one at rally of NZ a few years ago just after a grid at close to top speed. probably 160-180km/h. Instant pink mist.
