For those that don't frequent the Pits forum this is for you. Just watched this weeks Top gear and DR just wiped the floor with Lewis Hamilton in the reasonably priced car. He took nearly a second off the lap time and according to the banter after the segment, he did 3 laps and did the same time all 3 times.. That should make the rest of the F1 drivers a bit worried you'd think, haha.

A lot of the f1 community think he's an upcoming superstar. Most f1 drivers on different days are all within the same ballpark... DR blew that time away.

If only F1 was limited to 'Reasonably Priced Cars' he'd be da' man
But as it isn't there's lots of other factors involved, not the least of which is $$$$ Gotta like that he's an Aussie doing brilliantly though, and comes across great |

Was it the same car that LH drove?
Good on him regardless, im sure TG UK would try and protect a Brit as much as they could, they do it with their car reviews.

Same car, same weather conditions and 42.9 secs for Hamilton 42.2 secs for Riccardo.
They get three laps to get their best time Hamiltons time was the best of his 3 laps, Riccardo got the 42.2 on each of his three laps Top Gear doubted Hamilton's lap would ever be beaten |

But then do any lap records mean much? Or for that matter any records? Nothing can be done exactly the same time, in the same conditions, etc. You're asking for too much. But the key thing here is, it was mentioned that DR's lap was the fastest that car has ever made it around the track. That is an achievement in itself. Clarkson, whilst British biased is a big fan of DR and was genuinely happy to see him get that time.

It did to Daniel (and Clarkson). If you watch the vid his reaction was like he'd just won the World Championship

Considering how UK-centric Clarkson and the show is, I doubt very much that they'd do anything like that to give a non pom a distinct advantage. I'd be inclined to think they would have put fresh rubber on the car for Hamilton before any non british driver.

Just watched the video clip and I got to say that the Top Gear Lap was fast.
If Team Red Bull gives Daniel the right equipment on race day. Daniel will become an F1 Champion. (just like Sir Jack Brabham). To me Daniel Ricicardo is GOD! He is The Smiling Assassin. |

His response to the question from the audience was totally appropriate too!!!
Good on him.... The last 2 years at the Australian Grand Prix I've been in the same corporate facilities as his parents and family. There's heaps of them cheering him on. I'm a big fan..

Good on him,
It doesn't matter about conditions, tyres, or if he cheated. History and the records will show he currently has the fastest time in the same car as all the other drivers. The kid can drive just like all of them, but the way he does the off track stuff is endearing and infectious. JP |

I can't remember when Hamilton did his last time, but I would bet my life the original Liana didn't even last it's original run as the reasonably priced car, let alone once it became solely F1 driver duty. Those celebrities have torn wheels off and blown gearboxes, the producers would need to either keep a few cars around or keep it regularly maintained to have consistent times and keep it fair.

Remember though, those Suzukis are 10+ yrs old now so I'm sure they have a stock pile of spares and even whole cars on hand for just this purpose and I'm sure all of them are maintained to bog stock standard tune and condition. You'd think that for the purpose of consistancy they'd tune and dyno them to make sure they were the same and if not, you wouldn't think they would give the gun car to someone who's not a pom. Having Said that, 7 tenths is an awful lot of time even if the car had new tyres or an extra 5bhp. etc. No, sorry, to my mind DR is still DA' MAN !!
