The Regera - a new Era

The Regera was created as a luxury Megacar alternative to Koenigsegg’s traditional extreme lightweight race-like road cars. Even though the One:1 and the Agera RS have surprising levels of practicality, creature comforts and features, their primary focus is, and has always been, to be the overall fastest cars on the planet – around a racetrack or elsewhere.

Regera is Swedish for “to Reign” - a suitable name for a machine that offers a never seen before combination of power, responsiveness and luxury, while maintaining an understated Scandinavian cool - In short, the Regera has a Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde personality.

Even though the Regera is loaded with revolutionary technology and luxury, it still has a surprisingly low curb weight inspite of featuring 700 Hp electrical motors and an impressive 9 kWh liquid cooled battery pack.

Given the relative lightweight of the Regera, it can still perform competitively around a track and according to us, the only challenger around a track that
could be faster, is another Koenigsegg.

However, out in the open the Regera will reign as the king of the road, as the fastest accelerating, most powerful production car ever. With the introduction
of the Regera, Koenigsegg will, for the first time ever, have two parallel models in production.

We weren't supposed to see the Koenigsegg Regera until tomorrow. But this Instagram from Lovecars just came out along with their story. Guess what? It has 1,500 horsepower and can hit 248 MPH in less than 20 seconds. 248 in less than 20 seconds. HOLY ****.

The Regera is a totally new car from Koenigsegg unlike anything they have ever made. First off, it's a hybrid, with 700 horsepower from its electric motors alone. Koenigsegg says that it isn't a hybrid, and actually uses the electric power and nine kWh battery with something called the Koenigsegg Direct Drive, which we'll know more about tomorrow.

Inside, it has Apple CarPlay, 3G, WiFi, and a camera.

And it can get to 248 in less than 20 seconds. We said that three times, but that is ridiculous. To give you some semblance of a benchmark, the Porsche 918 goes from 0 to 186 MPH in 23.0 seconds. The Koenigsegg can hit a speed that is 60 MPH higher in less time.

Are there long enough tracks in Australia (assuming ford and holden test tracks won't be available for hire) to achieve that speed though?

I've always been a fan of these guys. The sound of those early ccx's or whatever they were called was just the best thing around hands down. I still watch the top gear review on that thing several times a year to hear that V8. Just magical. Koenigsegg deserve the respect of some of the other big name supercar makers and have possibly just moved the bar up a little. Look forward to hearing some actual proper figures when it is driven, as well as the sound!! Bring it on fellas!
