Alice to 50ish ks east of Mildura roughly 1800 ks in 15 hrs. In a PX Ranger that averaged 10.4 lt per 100 over the 5000k trip with camping gear for 2 and a motorbike in bits under the canopy and another one on a motow hanging off the towbar.

Trev's bike trips are pretty serious too but I've been reading mcnews.com.au for a long time so are no surprise to me.

Mine - bike, rode a ZZR250 from Sydney to Noosa in 1997, around 14 hours and roughly 1100km (at the time). First roadbike, still on my L's - the things you do when there's a woman at the other end of the trip

Sydney to Adelaide in 1988 for the F1 race, in a VK HDT Director, 1300+km in 12 hours (sunset to sunrise). That was a memorable run.

they look like good trips on a bike, i imagine it would be harder on the body riding for those sorts of hours ?

no mate i traded the old nissan on something a bit faster .
i had just been on a working holiday for 3 months living out of my old rattler which was pretty difficult , not the living out of the scrubber but just trying to make a buck , my timing was not good trying this during a recession , but anyway for the 3 months i babied the old patrol because budget was limited and the old g60s are pretty thirsty old buggers, so trying to conserve fuel on my trip across i sat on 80 kph to save juice where i could.

at the end of 3 months i had a couple of jobs workin on a farm driving tractors, feeding live stock, pulling dead sheep out of dams, fencing , but money was still scarce for the farmer and so was my wages, working packing grapes,
i ended up in geraldton and then back in perth , my last day in perth i had to decide do hang out and try for work until im totally broke or make the run home with my last bit of fuel money,
on the run over i tried plenty of places , one mine i stopped at they had just sacked 70 blokes, and that was the theme in most places.

so, i wimped out and made the run back to melbourne, saving fuel was no longer of priority, getting back to soft bed was ......got some interesting comments from a g60 owner that i had passed and he caught me in truck stop while i was filling up .
i miss the nissan.

Over 2 days, I did Bowral NSW to Darwin NT. 4028km in 48 hours. Which averages out to 2014km per day. That was with 3 rest stops. Mitsubishi Pajero NS 07 diesel.Was I pushing the limits? Maybe a bit. I wasn't exhausted when I arrived home. Stopped when I needed to.

Sydney to Maryborough QLD in a Hilux. This was around the late 1990's before a lot of the Pacific Hwy was upgraded. Around 1170km in 14 hours solo.

3 people in a Landrover from Birdsville to Nowra. 2700kms in 27hrs.

On a motorbike was 1500kms in 16hrs on a KTM640 supermotard. I was stuffed at the end.

And averaged over 200kmph from Amsterdam to Heidelberg (about 500km) for an emergency beef beer festival

That's an average of 100 km/h! I'm surprised you didn't overshoot Nowra! If that was a Defender that would have been an invigorating ride.

Just goes to show a lot of us have pushed the limits of fatigue at some stage, it's interesting to look at highway speeds to

, as a young bloke back in time before going 1.5 km over the limit became a capital offence,
travelling on the highway most of my friends and relos where sitting on higher speeds where possible and it was more the norm not the exception ,
most cars where less set up for really motoring along in some ways, but probably better set up for dodgey pot holed roads in another sense with taller sidewalled spongy tyres.
but still managed pretty good average speeds,
myself on the open highway I always felt comfortable sitting on 90 mph /140 kph as being not to hard on the car and still covering enough ground on long runs.

In the mid-1990's, drove from Canberra to Brisbane via Thirlmere (for the rail museum) and Springwood NSW (to visit my Grandmother - the last time I ever saw her).

Car was a then-newish Suzuki GTi

Left Canberra around 9 in the morning, got home at something like 2am.
Not in any great rush to ever do the same thing again.

1978 - Darwin to Townsville non stop in 24 hrs - i think it was 2,380km. Trip was done in a Mitsubishi D50 2L ute - pre runner to the L200.

1986 - Darwin PostOffice to Alice Springs Post Office 1515km, in 8 hours 43 minutes. The last 195km from Ti Tree to Alice was covered in 53 minutes, averaging 220kph - Honda VF1000F11

In the 1970's I drove Brisbane to Melb regularly (3-4 times per year), mostly taking 16 to 17 hours solo, and one trip in 15 1/2 hours. XY, XA, XB Falcon 250's - all run pretty much flat out for the trip.

These days roads and cars are so much better, but the drivers are much worse, as we all know that 101kmh will be fatal.

Driving is so much easier nowadays though, as we are told that you don't have to consider anything else but not exceeding 100. No skills needed these days!!!

Melbourne - Newcastle (13hrs or so), put new rims on turn round and come home to Melb. July last year in my BA 3V Fairmont Ghia with one 30 min nap, just car ate the kms no worries, I slept for a day after. 2 weeks after Melb to kempsey (15hrs or so) for a weekend (left friday 5pm arrived early hours) and return on the Monday in XR5T Mondeo. Nowhere as comfy for long haul as the BA. Also the 3V+ZF used less L/100km

Grafton to South Geelong in one stint, 1563km it reckons, got to Sydney by early afternoon and thought, yeah, it's just a little further.
Nullarbor 13 times, some for work, but never in a single day from Norseman to Ceduna in my case, there was usually work or camping to do.
Perth to Ravy in a 2.4 (non turbo) diesel Hilux, 900km, what torture.
Wanna get a decent wave from Perth? Take off at 3 for the dawny at Margs.
Growing up WA - you want to see your girlfriend this weekend? 500+km. Lots and lots of drives like this, "Hey, it's 11pm, I'll see you at 3". Day drives too in 45 degree heat. Nothing but AM radio in the old XW V8, so I know a lot about test cricket. At least it had AC.

One thing I learned was I liked Aussie Fords, so comfortable and just ate the k's up.

Otherwise, done the Melb-London thing like everyone else in those buses with wings.

Left Kunners at 4am, arrived in Newman at around 10pm. Average speed 130/kmh only stopping for fuel.

Great fun driving the kimberley/pilbara at night dodging cows.

I wasn't fresh after my trips but I was far from falling asleep at the wheel. Different people have different tolerance levels. I know how people can fall asleep at the wheel but me myself I havnt even come close. And yeah I was more sore at the end not tired.

I've dozed off at the wheel once but woke up again once I felt myself doze off, coming home 2:30AM in the morning from relos place with my parents in the car.

Luckily I was in town already so it was only another few km until home but that was a real struggle to stay awake those last few KM.

Usually I'm alright in the early hours of mornings if I've been up all night, but had a few close calls on the way to work as well on the roads at around 5:30AM, used to blast out music and A/C on my way in to help me stay awake.

None of those times have been from driving long distances just that I was really tired.

Wife won a set of mint XB guards of eBay a couple of years ago, nice suprise as she knew I prefered that to the xc square headlight set up I originally had.
Kellyville to Bendigo just over 830 ks and an overnight stay in Mirboo North another 310 or so ks in just over 12.5 hours so 1140 ks with 2 yo twins with dvd player working overtime and back home the next day in wife's Kia Grand Carnival, was reasonably fresh when I arrived home and going back to work the next day.
Prefer an early departure as that way the kids get a decent rest.
Currently in Kyneton in NW Victoria on holidays getting some well deserved rest with the family.
Personally believe 1000ks in 10-12 hours is enough for me for the day.

Drove from Brisbane to Perth back in 2001, Left Brissy about 8am on the Sunday, slept in the car at Cobar servo Sunday night, left there around 5am got to Port Augusta mid arvo on the Monday and decided to get a motel for the night. After a night in Port Augusta thought I should get a wiggle on as I had to meet the removalist back at my house in Perth on Wednesday so left Port Augusta at 5am on the Tuesday, Stopped off to look at some whales playing in a bay but other than that just the usual fuel stops through the day that also involved toilet stops for me and the dog, Had a few stops at night for some power naps and fuel then stopped at Southerncross for some breaky and and a refresh..........got home at 10am on the Wednesday.

So the last leg was about 2400km in about 29hrs with the Staffy riding shot gun in a VH Dunnydoor...........Was knackered for a couple of days after that little drive.

Darwin to Camooweal in a 3.3L XC Falcon just sitting on 100 KM/H but had to go to Tennant Creek for a new tyre.
I can't remember how many KM that is or how many HR.

Some old Gin tried to stop me for a lift right out in the no where, no way did I fall for that trick, with the bros some where hiding to jump out ! I had no room for them anyway.
