Anyone know if there is a site that helps find those lost engines for old falcons?

Early gt falcons that might not have the correct engine and it could still be out there some were

Try Ford customer service first. Using the chassis number in your request they are normally able to give you the correct engine number for the car concerned. Then try your local registry (RMS in NSW) office or Revs Check to see if the engine is still in circulation. Depending where you live and how you word your application, you can also find a lot of information on your car. They will not give you information on who has the engine if still in circulation. Bear in mind records are slowly being destroyed so if the engines been changed prior to the mid eighties you could be out of luck.

Would be good to set up a site where people could put in the motor they had and the engine number on it too see if some engines could be reunited with the original chassis

There was an aussie website set up for this some years back - matchingnumbers.com I think it was called. You could lodge your chassis or engine number with them and they'd contact you if a match ever came up. Brilliant idea but given the site has disappeared perhaps there is not enough demand for such a service.
