Default FG X Video/DVD options

I'm just wondering what is now on offer for FG X (and I guess SZ MkII) owners with Sync 2 systems? It seems that we get multiple USB ports, Bluetooth 4.0, wireless hotspot, and all sorts of tech, but video support is sorely lacking and barely mentioned in the manual (correct format on USB and only whilst stationary).

I'd be looking at replacing my headrests with a DVD system that somehow connects to the ICC or similar, but I am also open to other suggestions, like a roof mounted system. If you could please advise, it would be very handy, as we have a 1 year old and the Wiggles are starting to become a regular feature...

Lol, your thread on Sync is why I mentioned SZ MkII!

It'd be good to know what options are available for the Sync 2 owners, not just video. Having the XR8, I already have Sat Nav and touchscreen, so for me it would just be a video thing.

For the FGX there are limitations, For one the SYNC 2 screens, sat nav/video can be added in certain models, but this requires opening the unit and adding a board in between the TFT screen, on other models such as the RANGER this is fine as there is a lot of space behind the TFT, but if you look at the FGX there is no space at all, and your warranty would be out the window if this option was added. Something we could not cover if any issue ever arose. Maybe we will look at a interface closer to the warranty running out.

Another option for video which will work but it isn't exactly perfect it using the reverse camera input as the video, the issues here are it will advise you to `check your surrounds', and you have to trick the SYNC to thinking it is in reverse while the car thinks it is not, this is not an easy thing to do when everything in car runs on CANBUS, also I'm not sure if the car had predictive guidelines if these would be shown. So hopefully this has answered any questions in regards to why the video on screen is not yet an option for us. Also we have to justify the demand of spending a great deal of time and money on engineering and production for something that we would most likely only sell a minimal amount.

Cheers

No, makes perfect sense, thanks for the run down.

I'm left with really only one option - headrests. Seems to me that this would work with an external drive to work the screens, shouldn't really be any different to the FG. What are my options there? I'm not worried too much about video on the front screen, as it would be used for long trips with kids in the back.

Depends, you can get headrests with DVD/SD Card USB built in, or you can connect to DVD Player/Media Player etc. Its really up to you.

Cheers

Just bought a $20 holder that goes around the head rest posts, and plugged it into the USB to play sound through the stereo. Nice, non permanent solution, at least for now!
