Mates dad used to have a two foot long rubber hose with a wrist rope on it.
His theory was it wouldn't injure them but s..t it would hurt.

This is a very dangerous thread. God forbid that anyone in this thread gets in a position where they have to use their "weapon" this thread removes the innocent version of carrying the item and suddenly any charges become more serious. All it takes is someone who knows you in real life and has a grudge to let the cops know about this thread.
Think about the bloke who defended his family from an intruder and killed him. The big item against him was the threats he yelled out while a call was in to 000. without that no murder charges would have been layed.

Those people who lock their doors, WTF is wrong with you?

In the unfortunate event of an accident, how will people get you out?
Windows are incredibly hard to break from the outside.

If someone wants your car, let them take it. Your insurer will repair or reimburse you. Not worth getting into a dangerous situation over.

I assume if you stack the car that badly to get airbag deployment, the car eill automatically unlock all the doors.

Hello,

Many points have been raised, dont forget that people have had their Car taken with Kids in them. Think about various scenarios and what you would do. And boasting on a Forum can come back to haunt you. I remember of a young bloke who crashed his Mum's Car, not insured for him. She made the claim and he posted about what he was going to do to it with the money and an investigator found it. A dog cant be used against you, and a torch like a heavy Maglite is common in a Car for night time repairs. If you have a hunting knife and use it, be very careful how you use it and what you say. People have gotten away shooting intruders in their house, but not in the back.

Some new cars lock automatically, but as was said by Damo, once the airbags deploy the doors unlock anyhow,

under that in about 99.9999(repeater)% of other accidents if the air bag doesn't deploy you could open the door even if you were trapped by confinement.

Okay first of all, there are 3 levels of crash here.

1) nothing deploys. In which case just pulling the handle should automatically unlock the door anyway
2) airbags deploy. Your lock should automatically disengage
3) your locks are so badly damaged they don't disengage or work anymore. In this instance your doors probably already so warped that it wouldn't open even if the lock wasn't engaged.

Hello,

For about $5 you can get a window smasher and seat belt cutter. Myth buster did a review of some of these devices. We are not used to auto locking doors in Oz, but they are common in other countries. I do remember many years ago seeing someone trying to climb in a Car to get a ride at a set of lights. ( Sydney ) The door was locked fortunately.

A device sold in Africa was a gas flame thrower arrangement that set flames out from both sides of the Car. If only used for bad guys, I reckon that is fine.

Anyone that shoots anyone in a house built as per 'normal' Australian spec (i.e. plasterboard interior walls and hollow core doors) is a complete and utter idiot. And lucky.

If they have enough time to get their weapon out of its secure storage, find and fit the bolt, unlock the ammunition storage, load a magazine and then hunt and shoot someone then they've had time to call 000. Both a .22LR and a decent quality air rifle will go through several layers of plasterboard but in both of those cases unless you're being attacked/home invaded/car-jacked by a rabbit I wouldn't bother.

If you keep a loaded pistol in a bedside table then you need a damn good slapping and your right to a firearm license permanently revoked...because you're an idiot.

Hello,

The case I was thinking of was most likely the US, and it is illegal to have an unsecured firearm in Oz. Even stored Ammo has to be separate. There was a case of an old bloke in Adelaide before all the rules changed that shot an intruder. Every case is different though. 22 Low velocity wont go through a brick wall.

All FG and FGX Falcons have auto locking, and can be set to lock as you drive off.

Hello,

I worded my comment badly, we have them but are not accustomed to needing / using them. ( self locking doors ) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blaste...lamethrower%29 This is the device I mentioned.

In fact the only new car that doesn't self-lock doors nowadays in Australia is something like a Nissan Micra.

Having a locked door in an accident is beneficial, as it is less likely to part company with the car than an unlocked door is.

That's not something I would want to assume, keeping in mind that not all cars have airbags.

I hear you but it's a lot of faith that they will unlock.

If you are injured and can not open for the inside?

Each to there own I guess. But I would rather be able to get out if need be.

Good point. In a bad car crash I'd much rather stay trapped in the car then possibly get chucked or or have an arm sticking out the door when it decided to roll and take my arm off with it.

Also from a purely medical point of view if your in a serious crash the best thing to do in that situation is to just remain in the car and not move too much, just incase you have any spinal injuries. The only time you actually have to leave the car is if it's on fire or something.

Hello,

Staying in a Car is better, except if the Car is burning, under water at at significant other risk. On a Rail line or blind corner for example. My Dad was driving a truck that had steering failure, as it rolled his leg went out the door. Broken ankle, and when it stopped the smoke started, he climbed out where the windscreen was. As a general rule you are safer with locked doors while driving, but some 4x drivers still think they can jump out in time if things go bad. There are always exceptions, so decide for your-self.

A mate always had guns both sides of his bed loaded sitting up right ready to go maybe up to 8 of them, when I first came to his place we were in grade 7 I went over and pick up a gun and he freaked out saying they were loaded and if ever I was to play a prank of coming through his room window, just forget about it ! as he will shoot first directly no questions asked.

His dad would be out directly at night with the shot gun if he heard a noise blasting away directly.

They had a type of mob people that would cut through there property with a habit of taking things and raping people is just the norm, so they did not welcome such at all.

In them days it was your right to shoot as such and I never heard anyone even say anything against such at all, but only total support.
Big brother or Political Correctness was not in Australian back then and such Idea's were looked down on servilely as communist or Nazis and that's what they understood they went to war against such delinquents and depravity.

Most people out the bush had a gun sitting behind the front or rear door in case a idiot turned up to drive them away.

Never heard of any country people getting shot as they knew how to deal with a gun as it was just a normal tool one used, it's only morons that shoot themselves or accidentally another because they have not learned what to do and what not to do.

I support gun laws only because there are to many people on drugs nowadays and people are not real Men anymore they are just a male or a boy.
You had to prove you were a Man once to be respected, or you were just called a boy and that was once a fact here in our Australian history.
